SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) are unlikely to release Team India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini auction. Notably, five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and two other franchises reportedly approached Hyderabad for a trade during the offseason.
Ishan joined the SunRisers for ₹11.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He began with a century on debut while batting at No. 3, but he couldn’t maintain consistency throughout the season. The left-handed batter ended the campaign with 354 runs from 14 matches, including a century and a half-century.
Ishan Kishan Emerges as a Top Target Ahead of the IPL Mini-Auction
Ishan Kishan has become one of the most sought-after players ahead of the next IPL auction, with several teams showing interest. Mumbai Indians are reportedly the frontrunners to bring him back, hoping to reunite with the left-hander after letting him go earlier.

Mumbai had bought Kishan for ₹15.25 crore in the IPL 2022 auction, but they released him before the 2025 mega auction following a few underwhelming seasons. During his seven-year stint with the franchise, he scored 2,325 runs in 89 matches at a healthy strike rate of 136.85 and hit 15 half-centuries.
Apart from Mumbai, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have approached SunRisers Hyderabad to explore a trade or an all-cash offer for Kishan. All three teams are in search of a top-order wicketkeeper-batter to strengthen their lineup, but no progress has been made in negotiations so far.
Mumbai Indians Weigh Ishan Kishan Return Despite Ryan Rickelton’s Strong Season
Ryan Rickelton did a solid job opening for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. He scored 388 runs in 14 matches at an average of 29.85 and a strike rate of 150.97, including three half-centuries.
However, bringing back Ishan Kishan would offer the team greater balance. His presence would free up an overseas slot in the Playing XI and give MI more flexibility with their combinations. Kishan also fits into the franchise’s long-term planning, especially as they prepare for the future beyond Rohit Sharma.
Any move, however, will depend on negotiations with SunRisers Hyderabad. SRH are not keen on releasing him, but their stance may shift if Kishan himself pushes for an exit.
SunRisers Hyderabad Stonewalling All Approaches
According to Sahil Malhotra of TOI, SunRisers Hyderabad are in a tricky situation regarding Ishan. At one stage, SRH were believed to be open to reducing Kishan’s price. SRH has so far rejected all approaches, but that could change as the dynamics evolve.
“SRH’s situation is a classic catch-22. Earlier, I was told that SRH had agreed to take out around ₹10–11 crore from Ishan Kishan’s price and bring in a big player. But during this period, Kavya Maran received multiple approaches from other franchises.”
“The strongest approach came from Mumbai Indians. MI reached out to SunRisers Hyderabad for a possible deal involving Ishan Kishan — that did happen. But they weren’t the only ones; three franchises in total showed interest in signing him.”
For now, SRH are stonewalling all these approaches. But you never know how the dynamics can change as the auction gets closer.”
