Fans angry at BCCI after Shubman Gill’s yet another T20I failure

Indian fans have once again blasted Gautam Gambhir and Captain Suryakumar Yadav for keeping Shubman Gill in the side despite consecutive poor performances from the Indian vice-captain. This time, India dropped former opener Sanju Samson to slot in with an original middle-order batter.

Indian bowlers could not defend the low total of 125 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground despite the track helping bowlers. Though India picked 6 wickets in the game, the game never looked in favor of the Men in Blue.

Coming from behind with a 1-0 margin, the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl first at Hobart. Indian bowlers put on a fairly good show to restrict the Aussies to a 186-run total despite the batting-friendly track.

Shubman Gill continues poor streak in T20 Internationals

Coming in to bat in the second innings, where Suryakumar Yadav had predicted batting-friendly conditions, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill came out to bat. Abhishek started in his usual fashion, banging the ball to all parts of the ground.

With the pressure building around the batter Abhishek Sharma due to a tight over from Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis, he succumbed to the pressure and threw away his wickets trying to pull a much shorter-pitched delivery that hurried onto him.

Shubman Gill was the reason for the constantly building pressure, as he unreasonably kept taking singles without showing any intent to clear the fence or stroke a ball powerfully to the boundary. After struggling throughout the power play, he hit a boundary off Ellis’ second over and was dismissed the very next ball when a ball was pitched right in front of his pads.

Shubman Gill’s Last 10 T20I innings: 20(9), 10(7), 5(8), 47(28), 29(19), 4(3), 12(10), 37*(20), 5(10), 15(12).

India dropped Sanju Samson from their batting order for the Hobart match

The Indian team parted ways with their former Indian opener, Sanju Samson, for today’s game after having demoted him to the middle order on multiple occasions. Shubman Gill made a sudden and unexpected comeback to the T20I setup, hence ruling out Samson from opening for the Men in Blue.

He was swapped between the no. 3 and no. 5 roles despite having scored 3 centuries in a single year for India in T20Is in 2024. Samson has not been able to score in the middle order, and yet he has not been offered his top-order spot back.

Moreover, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the talented Indian opener in T20Is, has not even been picked in the side by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee and the head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
