Most Runs for India in 2025: Top Performers and Full Statistics

As the 2025 international season draws to a close, the Indian batting line-up delivered a year of remarkable milestones. While Shubman Gill established himself as the most consistent run-scorer across formats, the rise of a T20I powerhouse in Abhishek Sharma reshaped the team’s dynamics.

Below, we provide the definitive, official statistics for the highest run-scorers for India in Test, ODI, and T20I cricket, culminating in the overall combined chart.

Most Runs for India in All Formats in 2025

Not just the Indian list, Shubman Gill finished as the world’s leading run-scorer, aggregating a mammoth 1,732 runs across the three formats, narrowly edging out competitors like Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett (1,585 runs) and Pakistan’s Agha Salman (1,569 runs) in a tightly contested global race.

Gill scored so many runs mainly because of his important role in the national team. He is one of the few batters who plays as a top-order batter in all three international formats for India, which gave him the most chances to bat and build his total. Because of this, no one really challenged him for the top spot among Indian players. His consistency as an in-form opener also turned into key contributions, helping India win many matches this year.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was India’s top scorer last year with 1771 runs across formats, couldn’t even cross the 1000-run mark this year. The dip in form and fewer Test matches didn’t help the Indian left-handed opener get close to his numbers from last year. His Test average dropped from above 50 to below 40 this year.

Most ODI Runs for India in 2025

King Kohli and the Hitman haven’t gone anywhere! Virat Kohli is currently topping the chart, narrowly ahead of Rohit Sharma. The key point here is the quality: Kohli’s average is outstanding, while Rohit is destroying attacks with a strike rate well above a run-a-ball.

The younger players like Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill are close behind, but they still couldn’t pass the senior players in total runs. Another standout is KL Rahul who, despite fewer innings, has a very high strike rate, showing he is the aggressive middle-order finisher. This table shows that India’s batting core remains strong, with the experienced players providing both volume and real impact.

Player Matches Innings Runs High Score Average Strike Rate 100/50
Virat Kohli 12 12 586 135 58.60 92.72 3/3
Rohit Sharma 13 13 575 121* 47.91 100.17 2/3
Shreyas Iyer 11 10 496 79 49.60 89.53 0/5

KL Rahul 13 11 367 66* 52.42 107.94 0/2

Virat is also the only player on this list who features in the global charts for the top-10 run-corers in the 50-over format this year.

Most Test Runs for India in 2025

The Test chart shows the clear dominance of Shubman Gill, who scored the most runs (983) with a brilliant average of 70.21, helped by converting his big scores, including a huge 269. The batting lineup also has great depth, with three players, Gill, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, all scoring more than 760 runs.

Jadeja’s contribution stands out, as his 764 runs came at an excellent average of 63.66, showing his growth as a world-class Test batter. All his 764 runs this year came while batting lower down the order, and this is the second-highest Test total by any Indian batter in a calendar year while batting at No. 6 or below, only behind VVS Laxman’s 984 in 2002.

Most T20I Runs for India in 2025

The T20I format showed a clear shift in approach, built entirely on aggression and led by a new star.

Abhishek Sharma transformed the T20I lineup, leading the chart with 700+ runs. It’s only the fourth time an Indian has crossed the 700-run mark in a T20I calendar year. His most impressive stat is his unbelievable strike rate of 196.36, along with a strong average of 47.25, making him India’s most destructive limited-overs batter.

The rest of the T20I list also features high strike rates, including Shivam Dube (148.59) and Washington Sundar (145.31), highlighting the team’s move toward high-impact aggression rather than pure consistency.

Player Matches Innings Runs High Score Average Strike Rate 100/50
Abhishek Sharma 17 17 756 135 47.25 196.36 1/5

Abhishek still has the South Africa T20I series left, and he is currently the only Indian player in the global top ten for most T20I runs this year. He also has a good chance to move even higher up the list.

Final Thoughts and Outlook for 2026

The 2025 calendar year was a triumph for Indian cricket, led globally by Shubman Gill’s historic aggregate total. The data conclusively proves that India has successfully developed a specialized batting unit: reliable anchors in Tests, experienced match-winners in ODIs, and explosive power hitters in T20Is. The emergence of players like Abhishek Sharma and the consistency of the veterans set a powerful foundation.

As we look ahead to 2026, the question is whether Gill can maintain his triple-format workload and whether the T20I specialists can push their strike rates even higher, making India an even more formidable opponent on the world stage.
