Twitter erupts as KKR buy Cameron Green for ₹25.20 Crore at IPL 2026 Auction

Kolkata Knight Riders have emptied a massive amount from their incredibly large auction purse to get Australian 26-year-old all-rounder Cameron Green into their side. Cameron Green surpasses Mitchell Starc’s former record of INR 24.75 crores for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The IPL 2026 mini-auction has begun, and as per expectations, the 26-year-old Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is reportedly the costliest bid of this mini-auction. The Kolkata Knight Riders went all out to grab the lanky all-rounder for a whopping INR 25.20 crores after an intense bidding war with the Chennai Super Kings.

Despite their low purse, the Kolkata Knight Riders started the proceedings by bidding for the all-rounder; the command was then passed onto the likes of the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings. After the mammoth rise in bid, many suggested that CSK conspired to inflate the prices to reduce KKR’s purse below theirs.

The Kolkata Knight Riders then engaged in a fierce battle for their costliest player from the last auction, that is, Venkatesh Iyer. They, however, withdrew when RCB bid 7 crores for the batting all-rounder. KKR then got their hands on Finn Allen, the explosive New Zealand opener and wicket-keeper, at his base price.

Camron Green becomes the costliest KKR player for a whopping INR 25.20 crores

The Kolkata Knight Riders entered the IPL 2026 mini-auction with a massive purse of INR 64+ crores; for the first time, any team had entered the mini-auction with such a massive purse. Cameron Green was already anticipated to be the costliest player of this auction.

After being bought for a whopping INR 25.20 crores, Cameron Green became the costliest-ever player for the Kolkata Knight Riders, a franchise that is known for making massive buys. He surpassed the former highest bid placed for Australian speedster Mitchell Starc.

Starc, who was bought for a massive INR 24.75 crores, has been left behind by Green, and the Aussie all-rounder is currently the third most costly player in the history of the competition.

Cameron Green is now the costliest overseas player in IPL history

Cameron Green is also officially one of the costliest overseas players in the history of the IPL. Formerly, this record was also held by fellow Australians like Pat Cummins and then Mitchell Starc.

Green would now be the costliest ever IPL overseas player; however, according to the rules of the IPL, his net worth is not expected to take him above the maximum fee limit of INR 18 crores. For this cycle of the IPL, as well, the highest slab of retention for a cricketer is INR 18 crores, and hence Cameron Green cannot be paid anything exceeding that extent.

The amount above the cap of 18 crores shall be passed onto the BCCI’s welfare fund. However, the team purses would be deducted an exact amount of INR 25.20 crore, and the player shall also not be handed the money; the money is entirely and rightfully belonging to the BCCI.
