India tour of Bangladesh cancelled? BCCI secretary refuses commitment on the tour after BCB drops itinerary

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a rescheduled three-match ODI series against India in August-September. However, uncertainty remains over the tour, as it is yet to be seen whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will approve travel to Bangladesh given the current political situation.

The BCCI asked Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur Rahman from the squad for IPL 2026. This decision has sparked debate, with fans in both India and Bangladesh reacting in different ways. The decision from the BCCI came amid tensions following violent incidents, including the murder of Dipu Das.

BCCI’s Mustafizur Call Sparks Mixed Reactions and Raises India-Bangladesh Series Doubts

The BCCI’s decision to ask the Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman has received reactions on social media in India. Many fans welcomed the move and said the fast bowler should not have been picked in the first place. They praised the BCCI for taking a clear stand.

However, some posts went much further, calling for wider bans and boycotts. The decision has also raised questions about the future of the white-ball series between India and Bangladesh, which is scheduled for September.

Earlier, the series was postponed due to India’s busy schedule and political unrest in Bangladesh. With the latest developments, it is still unclear whether the tour will go ahead as planned.

I Have No Comments To Offer – BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia

The BCCI avoided giving a clear answer on India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh, even after the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the schedule. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the board would not comment at this stage and added that the final call rests with the government.

Saikia’s response came amid concerns over recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. When asked directly whether India would travel under the current circumstances, he declined to elaborate, saying, “At this moment, I have no comments to offer.”

“We didn’t travel to Bangladesh last year too, BCB had issued their international calendar, but it looks doubtful, as we need Indian government approval to play in any other country. As far as the T20I World Cup is concerned, Bangladesh will play as per the scheduled games in India,” a top BCCI official said as quoted by the Indian Express.

India’s Limited-Overs Tour of Bangladesh Confirmed by BCB

According to a media release by the BCB, India will tour Bangladesh for a limited-overs series. The three-match ODI series will be played on September 1, 3, and 6, followed by three T20Is on September 9, 12, and 13. India are expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28 to prepare for the series.

The tour was originally planned for August 2025 but was postponed indefinitely last year due to political unrest and security concerns in Bangladesh. After discussions between both boards, the series was pushed back by more than a year to address safety and scheduling issues.

The situation has also raised questions around Bangladesh’s fixtures in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which India is co-hosting.

Bangladesh are currently scheduled to play their group matches at Eden Gardens and the Wankhede Stadium, but there is growing speculation that those games could be shifted to Sri Lanka, the co-host nation, depending on how the situation develops.
