The Indian cricket team achieved victory against New Zealand, which prompted former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin to praise Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav for their outstanding performances. He praised Ishan Kishan for his ability to convert his successful domestic performance into success at the international level.

Ishan and Suryakumar launched an attacking display against New Zealand during their match at Raipur, which turned into a video game simulation after India reached 6/2 while chasing 209 runs. Ishan’s current performance and Suryakumar’s successful return to form bring significant advantages to India, which now leads the series 2-0.

Suryakumar achieved his first fifty score since October 2024, but he struggled throughout the 2025 season, which resulted in 218 runs from 19 innings at an extremely low average of 13.62 and a strike rate that remained below 120 throughout his performance.

Ishan made his Team India comeback after two years away from the team, and he continued from his prior performance when he played in Jharkhand’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) victory, where he scored 517 runs from 10 innings at an average of 57.44 and a strike rate above 197 while hitting two centuries and two fifties.

Ashwin explained through his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’ that Ishan Kishan performed exceptionally well during his batting session. He achieved outstanding results. His batting performance mirrored his previous performance during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He did not keep selection in mind there. He maintained his batting until reaching 100 runs, but he kept on playing. His unique ability to achieve this goal distinguishes him from his competitors.

The Indian T20I team has played “soft cricket” for 15 years according to Ashwin, who explained that players focused on milestones instead of using powerplay opportunities to their maximum potential. The Indian T20I team has improved its performance to the point where it outperforms all other teams in the world. The other teams will be scared looking at this Indian batting line-up heading into the world Cup.

The T20 format has witnessed our team playing ten soft cricket matches during the last fifteen years. The match did not progress because of our actions. The team failed to use the powerplay to their advantage. Our present performance exceeds all T20 team requirements by ten times better than our previous performance while our team includes only one batter. Our past performance during six years back time period shows that 6/2 score would lead to 43/2 or 48/2 score which would complete the powerplay. The Indian team maintained their offensive stance throughout the entire match. After losing two wickets the team scored 75 runs during the powerplay period. The team does not qualify as a good team because it has championship caliber players. “All teams will have fear looking at this batting line-up,” he said.

Ashwin stated that Surya made a correct choice to establish a slow approach while Ishan operated through aggressive batting. The bowling performance made him spend eight to ten balls because he needed to understand his current form condition.

He requires his current batting performance to succeed because he needs to perform well for his team. After he faced eight to ten deliveries he reached full batting form and started scoring runs. His current batting performance shows that he maintains strong athletic abilities. A batter looking in great form need not make big runs in T20 cricket. The positive aspect for India exists because of this situation according to him. The Indian team won the toss and decided to bowl first at the start of the match. The Kiwis reached a total of 208/6 through their 20 overs because Mitchell Santner (47 runs off 27 balls with six fours and one six) and Rachin Ravindra (44 runs off 26 balls with two fours and four sixes) made outstanding batting performances. Kuldeep emerged as the top Indian bowler after achieving 2/35 bowling results during four overs while Varun Chakravarthy Harshit Rana Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube each took one wicket.

After India lost their first two wickets with the dismissal of Sanju Samson for six runs and Abhishek Sharma who scored no runs Ishan Kumar and Surya Kumar Yadav brought their team back to victory with their astonishing 122-run partnership which they achieved during eight overs of playing time. Shivam (36* in 18 balls, with four and three sixes) also played a quick cameo, taking India to the target in 15.2 overs.
