The postseason is coming, and with it, a passel of high-stakes games featuring a number of our Top 10 teams. We did lay out yesterday some mileposts to keep in mind because of the number of sitting state champions who will be confronting each other and a number of long-time powers that will be looking to keep their championship streaks alive.
The RightToRightIsRight.com honorary No. 11 Team of the Week is Landisville Hempfield (Pa.). The team was not expected to do much in the District 3-AAA Tournament after a sub-.500 regular season, but lo, the 14th-seeded Black Knights have pulled themselves up into the last four of the D-3 tournament, guaranteeing them a PIAA Tournament berth.
1. Uxbridge (Mass.) 18-0
The Spartans defeated Hopedale (Mass) 5-1 in a Sunday night game; the team awaits state seedings and should be the No. 1 overall seed in the MIAA Division 3 Tournament
2. Villanova Academy of Notre Dame de Namur (Pa.) 18-1
Notre Dame will venture into unfamiliar territory tomorrow, playing Rosemont Agnes Irwin (Pa.) on the newly-christened Carter Field to close out the regular season
3. Newtown Square Episcopal Academy (Pa.) 16-2
The Churchwomen take on Springside-Chestnut Hill (Pa.) before embarking on its journey in the PAISAA Tournament
4. Louisville Sacred Heart (Ky.) 26-0-1
The Valkyries took on Louisville Assumption (Ky.) in the KHSAA state final last evening
5. Glenbrook (Ill.) North 17-1-1
The Spartans host the IHSFHA state semifinal game Thursday against Lake Forest (Ill.); the state final is Saturday against the winner of Wilmette Loyola Academy (Ill.) and Winnketka New Trier (Ill.)
6. Malvern Villa Maria (Pa.) 16-2
Villa Maria meets Eagleville Methacton (Pa.) in the semifinal round of the PIAA District 1-AAA Tournament; the winner takes on the survivor of Downingtown (Pa.) East and Doylestown Central Bucks West (Pa.) in Saturday’s championship
7. Summit Oak Knoll (N.J.) 16-1
Alex Sherman scored in the final minute of play as the Royals beat Clark Johnson Regional (N.J.) in the final of the Union County Tournament
8. Yorktown Tabb (Va.) 17-0
The Tigers, current VHSL Class 3A champions, beat defending VHSL Class 5A titlist Suffolk Nansemond River (Va.) 2-0 last Wednesday
9. Pottstown HIll School (Pa.) 12-4
Thursday, the Rams get Cherry Hill Camden Catholic (N.J.). A subsequent MAPL rivalry game against Blairstown Blair Academy (N.J.) will get played in amongst the first couple of rounds of the PAISAA Tournament
10. Downingtown (Pa.) West 17-3
West will have the winner of Plymouth Meeting Plymouth-Whitemarsh (Pa.) and Pennridge (Pa.) tomorrow in the octofinal of the PIAA District 1-AAA tournament
11. Landisville Hempfield (Pa.) 8-11
The Knights travel to Millersville Penn Manor (Pa.) in the PIAA District 3-Class AAA semifinals
