October 31, 2025 — Friday Statwatch for games played through October 29

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Friday Statwatch, our compendium of spooky field hockey statistics from all over the country.

This week, I wanted to take some time to dwell on one particular statistical occurrence from the 2025 season. This is the fact that Adelaide Minnella, the senior attacking midfielder for North Caldwell West Essex (N.J.) became the 13th known member of the 100 goal, 100 assist club.

Here are the numbers below:

G-A Name School ST Year
148-135* Chantae Miller Williamsville North NY 2003-2008
126-117 Chantae Miller Williamsville North NY 2005-2008

*– six-year varsity numbers

The 100-100 Club is, indeed, rarefied air. Every one of the players on this list made a Division I team. That also includes Lucas Crook, who made the Providence College program as a male practice player. Too, six of the athletes were capped for the U.S. senior women’s national team. Two, Emma DeBerdine and Meredith Sholder, played in an Olympic Games.

Of course, we also recognize that there were large swaths of American field hockey history before 2000 where assists were not recorded, especially on penalty corner plays. There are likely a number of players who might have actually scored 100 and assisted 100 goals, but never got the credit. However, those numbers are likely not very many, because of the refinements in training and nutrition, the specialization of players in field hockey, and the changes in stick technology and competition surfaces.

In other words, Maryanna Watson, who scored 144 goals for Gloucester (N.J.) in the early 1960s on grass with heavy mulberry sticks, is an absolute outlier. No, wait. Make that a feat.

What you see below is a compilation of available statistics through last Wednesday from available sources such as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, New Jersey Advance Media, the governing bodies of Kentucky and Michigan, and, of course, the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com platform. I encourage you to get your fellow teams to enter their information there as well as whichever is your local news site, so that we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.

CAREER GOALS
205 Caitlin Connell, Malvern Villa Maria (Pa.)
142 Adelaide Minnella, North Caldwell West Essex (N.J.)
119 Sophia Borghese, Worthington Thomas Worthington (Ohio)
