Vancouver Canucks Trade Quinn Hughes to Minnesota

This turned out to be a monumental day in the NHL. First, Tristan Jarry was traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Edmonton Oilers. Now, the Vancouver Canucks have traded Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild.

NHL Rumors: St. Louis Blues, Minnesota Wild, and the Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks needed an offer to make them say ‘yes.’ They got that as the Wild are sending Marco Rossi, Liam Öhgren, Zeev Buium and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft to the Canucks. There is no salary retention.

Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford, in a press release, said“We would like to thank Quinn for his time with the Vancouver Canucks. Quinn is a great person, a great player, and one of the greatest Canucks of all time. With the circumstances surrounding JT and now Quinn, we are fortunate to acquire these very good young players from Minnesota.”

NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators, and the Vancouver Canucks

Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin said in a press release: “Like Jim, I would also like to thank Quinn for everything thing he has done in Vancouver. Quinn played hard, led by example and did a lot of very good things for the Canucks. Trading away a player of this caliber is never easy and easy decision to make, but it was one we had to do to make our team better.”

Remember, the Vancouver Canucks sent a memo to 31 other teams stating that their veterans were available. Not to mention, Rutherford mentioned that Quinn Hughes wants to play with his brothers. However, the Canucks got the best possible package they could. It had to be four pieces. But it revolved around a center.

NHL Rumors: The Latest on Quinn Hughes, and Who Are Potential Suitors?

The Canucks got that in Marco Rossi, whom they wanted since the summer. Now they get a young up-and-coming defenseman in Buium. Not to mention, Öhgren is going to be a good player as well. Again, Vancouver is betting on potential and trading away a guy they knew was special.

The Minnesota Wild are getting the second-best defenseman in the NHL. Now, Quinn Hughes, Miro Heiskanen, and Cale Makar are all in the same division.

The Minnesota Wild are going all out. GM Bill Gurien wants to win and has the cap space to make this deal happen. There is always one team that comes out of nowhere that can make deals like this. Bill Guerin wouldn’t have been doing his job if he hadn’t made the call and laid the groundwork.

The Minnesota Wild are the only team that can extend Quinn Hughes by eight years. He is eligible for an extension come July 1st.

Now the saga is over in Vancouver for Quinn Hughes. This didn’t need to happen, but it was best it did.
