So, with the season pretty much over, we’d like to introduce you to the player who is, provisionally, the leader in goals scored this year. That would be senior Sophia Apple, an attacker from Greensboro Northwest Guilford (N.C.). This year, she has amassed 160 goals that made a run in the NCISAA tournament before losing to Matthews Weddington (N.C.), a team that made it all the way to the finals.
For Apple, the key to her success is old-fashioned grit.
“If you’re not committed to the sport as someone like me, they don’t knwo the amount of time and commitment that you put forth in your sport and the amount of sacrifice that you have to make,” she tells The Greensboro News & Record. “I would just tell people that I’ve made a lot of sacrifices to be where I am now, at the level where I am, and I’ve worked very hard for everything I have earned through the sport.”
Apple will matriculate to East Carolina University this coming fall, and is expected to make an impact for this emerging side.
Below are provisional statistics from available published sources, including MaxPreps, Berks Game Day, the KHSAA, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, PhillyLacrosse, and Advance Media. If we can get more teams, state federations, and local leagues to adopt the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com platform, we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.
