Ghislaine Maxwell won’t answer lawmakers’ questions about her dealings with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein unless Congress meets several conditions or President Trump grants her clemency, her lawyer said Tuesday.
In a letter to the House Oversight Committee, Maxwell’s lawyer David Markus said she would appear only after resolving her appeal of her sex-trafficking conviction before the Supreme Court. Markus added that Maxwell would require immunity for any questioning, saying she couldn’t risk further criminal exposure, and would need a list of questions in advance.
Maxwell was responding to a subpoena for her testimony from the committee, chaired by Rep. James Comer (R., Ky.). Without the requested assurances, Markus said in the letter, Maxwell would invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
“Of course, in the alternative, if Ms. Maxwell were to receive clemency, she would be willing—and eager—to testify openly and honestly,” Markus told Comer.
A spokesman for the committee said it “will respond to Ms. Maxwell’s attorney soon, but it will not consider granting congressional immunity for her testimony.”
The Trump administration has come under sustained criticism after releasing a memo saying that it didn’t intend to make public any further information from the FBI investigation into Epstein and his crimes. Figures on both the right and left accused them of backtracking on earlier promises to do so, while the administration said it had already released all of the pertinent material that it could, following an exhaustive review.

Given Trump’s propensity to lie and break deals, Maxwell is smart to demand clemency in advance.
Left and Right politicians would scream. And it poses a big risk to Trump.
Can Trump put down on paper what Maxwell needs to say to get clemency?
If not, then Maxwell can say what she wants, regardless of what Trump wants her to say.
Then again, she wants out of prison and does not want a vindictive Trump going after her.
But she can always leave the country.
Nothing to See?
Trump says there is nothing to see. That is easy to prove or disprove isn’t it?
Instead we are going trough a process that will not be believable for obvious reasons if it does nothing but mention Democrats.

I failed to mention that none of this may matter. No matter what Trump says, MAGA will find a way to believe it or ignore it.
The extreme Left will also believe what it wants.
Epstein is highly unlikely to decide the midterms. Tariffs, inflation, and recession will.
