AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST FESTIVAL OF PRE-LOVED STUFF
KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND
Prepare for the hunt!
Calling all thrifty shoppers, vintage hunters and sustainability heroes, Garage Sale Trail is back this weekend and next, with four massive days of sales happening across the country, 8–9 and 15–16 November 2025.
With over 10,000 garage sales already registered across the two weekends, this year’s edition is set to be huge, bringing communities together to save items from landfill and snag a bargain on the way.
In 2024, nearly 300,000 Australians sold or shopped at more than 13,000 garage sales nationwide, giving a second life to more than 755,000 items. The appetite for secondhand is only growing, with new insights from the 2025 PayPal Circular Economy Research Report revealing that even more Australians are keen to declutter. On average, each household is sitting on $1,349 worth of unused and unwanted items that could be turned into cash. From furniture and fashion to books and collectibles, almost nine in ten Aussies (89%) shared that they have unused items at home that they could sell, while three-quarters (76%) said they have had a ‘Junk room’ at some stage.
The research also found Australians are embracing the joy of secondhand shopping, with over half (57%) swapping high-end brands for affordable options, and 39% buying more pre-loved goods to help manage rising living costs. In fact, 58% bought something secondhand in the past year, and 73% agree buying vintage is now mainstream, making Garage Sale Trail the perfect place to find your next treasure.
This year, the numbers are set to explode, with community sales popping up all over the country. Among them is Garri’s Big Costume & Clothing Clearout in Melbourne from racks of vintage stock from the much-loved Imaginarium Costumes. In Sydney, FBi Radio is getting in on the action with a one-of-a-kind sale offering CDs of former DJ mixes and memorabilia from the station’s archives. Down south, Tasmania’s Rumble in the Jumble is a collector’s dream, featuring some 8,000 items gathered over a lifetime of curating quirky finds. And in the Hunter Valley, the Morpeth Village Treasure Trail is set to transform a kilometre-long wonderland of stalls, with over 10,000 items to snap up.
There’s even some star power to boot with a bunch of ambassadors leading this year’s charge for reuse including Montaigne, ARIA Award-winning musician and Eurovision alum, Beci Orpin, iconic artist and designer, Costa Georgiadis green-thumbed royalty and part-time gnome and dirtgirl from dirtgirlworl
No garage? No worries! In 2025, the Trail’s going beyond the driveway, with community sales powered by Grow It Local, the Australian Men’s Shed Association and the Australian Neighbourhood Houses & Centres Association, helping even more Aussies get involved. From pre-loved furniture, designer fashion and retro homewares to kids’ toys, collectable vinyl and hand-painted ceramics, Garage Sale Trail is a secondhand shopper’s paradise. Some sales even feature live DJs, tarot readers, and local food trucks!
