[When Your Daughter’s Secret Literary Life Takes You on an Unexpected Journey Through Historical Fiction]
A Parent’s Pride and a Well-Kept Secret
I’m bursting with excitement as I write this, and I can finally share something I’ve been keeping under wraps for years. My daughter Amy is an author—you might have known that part already. But what you didn’t know is that she’s been leading a double literary life, writing historical fiction under a secret pen name that she’s never allowed me to reveal, until today.
After years of patiently waiting (and believe me, keeping this secret has been hard because so many friends and family have been asking), I finally have her blessing to pull back the curtain on her alternate identity. So here it is: Amy writes immersive historical novels under the pen name A.T. Butler, and she’s built an impressive catalog of books that transport readers to the American frontier.
Armchair Travel Through Historical Fiction: Her Series Collection
If you’re someone who loves to travel through books. learn about history, and explore new territories from the comfort of your favorite reading chair, Amy’s variety of historical fiction series might just become your next obsession. Let me walk you through her literary landscape of the American West.

The Oregon Trail: Eight Books of Pioneer Journey Adventures
Her most popular series is “Courage on the Oregon Trail“—an eight-book journey that follows travelers along one of America’s most iconic routes. If you’ve ever wondered what it was really like to experience the Oregon Trail, to cross prairies, ford rivers, and face the unknown in a covered wagon, these historical adventure books bring that experience vividly to life. She’s also written the “Oregon at Last” books, continuing stories of those who made it to the promised land of the Pacific Northwest.
These books about the Oregon Trail offer the perfect blend of vicarious travel reading and compelling historical storytelling—allowing you to journey back in time without leaving your favorite reading spot.
Wyoming Territory: Life in Juniper Falls
The five-book “Juniper Falls” series takes readers to the Wyoming Territory in the late 1800s. This Wyoming historical fiction series is where the Old West comes alive—a time and place where communities were carved out of wilderness, and every day brought new challenges and possibilities. Through these frontier America fiction novels, you can experience life in a territorial town, immersing yourself in period fiction that captures the essence of westward expansion.
And There’s More Historical Adventures
Amy’s also penned the “Jacob Payne, Bounty Hunter“ western series—perfect for readers who love action-packed historical westerns. Along with several other works spanning different corners of frontier life novels, each series offers a unique window into a world that shaped our nation. Marrying a Sweet Sister is her latest adventure. It’s a clean historical romance series. Whether you’re drawn to pioneer women’s stories, homesteading adventures, or the drama of the American historical West, there’s something here for every historical fiction lover.

A Modest Author and a Proud Parent
A friend of ours recently convinced Amy to pose with one of her recent historical novels when she announced her secret pen name at a holiday gathering with family and friends. She’s reluctant about being in the spotlight, so she’s asking that we keep her face private, for now.
When I confirmed that I could finally share her secret pen name with the world, her only comment was: “Tell everyone that if they don’t like the books, please don’t tell me.” She works so hard on these books, and it’s her primary source of income.
As for me? Well, I’m just a proud parent who can’t help but add my own two cents: If you DO like her books, please buy more, write a review on your favorite book review platform, like Goodreads, Amazon, etc., and share your recommendations with fellow book lovers who enjoy escape through reading. Every positive review and purchase truly makes a difference for authors working hard to bring these historical adventures to life.
