Trailer parks aren’t exactly a selling point for most Americans scoping out an unforgettable beach getaway.
But that’s exactly what you would’ve found years ago before this California hotspot opted for a glow-up.
That’s not to say you won’t find a certain crowd who’s proud their home has wheels, but that’s no longer the end-all be-all depiction of what’s now become one of SoCal’s most sought-after beach towns.

Whether you’re looking for posh oceanfront resorts, trendy new restaurants, and less crowds than more notable destinations, Oceanside has flipped the switch from run-down pass-through town to a must-visit vacation paradise.
Forbes Highlights Oceanside As West Coast’s Biggest Surprise
Compiling a list of the America’s most unique destinations, there was only one West Coast beach getaway to make the cut on Forbes’ ‘unique’ list for your 2026 adventures.

You got it — Oceanside.
Yes, trailer parks are still scattered around town, but there’s so much cool stuff going on in O’Side nowadays you won’t notice the eyesores.
In fact, Forbes doesn’t even bother mentioning the casino towering over I-5 that looks like it would smell like a decades-old ashtray or any trailer park tucked away from the coast.
They’re all about what Oceanside has become, and that’s one of the trendiest destinations in California.
In Forbes’ own words, you should make your way to O’Side for ‘classic SoCal vibes, minus the L.A. traffic’, which is true, but the traffic going South to San Diego or north to Orange County isn’t exactly enjoyable.

Forbes highlights Hyatt’s Seabird Resort as the top stay, Frankie’s Oceanside Bar for a great cocktail and tiki vibes (though, I personally love The Lobby more), and finally taking your first surf lesson to round-up a quick list of fun must-dos.
Most notably, Forbes basically categorizes Oceanside as a foodie destination without coming out and saying it, but we’re assuming their mouth was full because that is exactly what this town has transformed into, with Michelin-approved eateries like Valle and hole-in-the-wall taco stands just as good, if not better, than south of the border.
The Perfect Base

Look`— nobody likes traffic. You are likely to hit it at one point or another, whether you’re driving up or down to Oceanside.
That said, we all have to make sacrifices and in this case, burning expensive California fuel is the price to pay for an awesome vacation beach-hopping the pristine Southern California coast.
Oceanside is in the perfect spot to explore all over San Diego County or venture through a scenic mountain drive to Orange County with such gems as San Clemente and Dana Point for movie-set SoCal vibes or even Anaheim for a hockey game or Disneyland.

If you choose to stay in one of Oceanside’s underrated resorts or even a beachside cottage rental, there’s no end to the fun you can have in and out of the city.
Think road trips to the San Diego Zoo, small coastal towns like Solana Beach that tourists typically miss, or even LegoLand in neighboring Carlsbad if Disney is too much of a hassle.
Plus, many of California’s 2026 hotspots (in addition to Oceanside, of course) are all within close reach, whether it be stunning shores or mountain retreats.
Oceanside Is Easier To Reach Than Ever

Yes, traffic may be unavoidable, but there is one teeny loophole that could help.
Despite being sued by locals who are up in arms over Carlsbad’s airport opening for commercial use again, American and United now anchor this McClellan-Palomar Airport.
‘That means you no longer have to drive 40 minutes or so (without traffic) from San Diego or make a slightly further trip from Santa Ana.

Who knows what will ultimately happen, but it seems both United and American are here to stay, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see smaller airlines such as Breeze want in on the action, either, since they prioritize secondary airports.
Any way you slice it, Oceanside’s beautiful beaches await all year-round, whether you’re seeking winter sun for a last-minute escape or planning ahead for spring and summer.
