Latest The Sims 4 Expansion Triggers Pregnancy Wave

If you’re doing a ranking of all the funniest game-breaking bugs of all time, I bet you’d put The Sims 4’s July 1 patch at the #1 spot. In what might be the most hilariously catastrophic bug in The Sims 4’s decade-long history, EA’s July 1 patch has turned the game into one massive maternity ward.

To be clear, the bug isn’t affecting every single player in the game, but it’s so widespread that a significant number of players are saying that they’re getting false pregnancy markers which created bizarre and funny situations where characters who shouldn’t be pregnant are now expecting.

Welcome to The Sims 4 Enchanted By Nature expansion, where everyone can be fairies and get wings alongside a pregnancy apocalypse.

The Technical Oopsie That Started It All

The Sims 4 Enchanted By Nature

It all started when The Sims 4’s pregnancy system broke down after the July 1 patch. This prevented players from taking pregnancy tests, using the “Try for Baby” action, and going through the normal pregnancy stages.

Apparently, the cause of this problem is because of EA’s newest game pack, Enchanted By Nature, which in its implementation in the game, has somehow also removed the pregnancy object state from sims. This means that the code that tells the game whether a Sim is pregnant, what trimester they’re in, or if they’re in labor appears to have been damaged or removed during optimization.

To check whether you’re affected by the bug, try to go to the Simology section and hover over to your Sim’s age. From there you can see a notification and if it says, “Sims that are pregnant cannot age up,” this means that you’ve been hit by the pregnancy bug.

So, How Bad Is It Exactly?

The Sims 4 Vampire Hypnotizing a Sim

Well, when affected Sims are marked as pregnant even if they’re not supposed to be, it creates absolutely bonkers situations. It’s impossible to take a pregnancy test, you can’t grow old (because pregnant Sims don’t age), you can’t Make A Wish on your birthday, or try to “woo-hoo” to make another baby.

If you’re affected by this bug, you’re essentially stuck in pregnancy limbo, and you won’t be able to do anything much about it because the game thinks you’re perpetually expecting.

If you think that’s bad, well, think about the vampires in the game. If you have a vampire character, you need to feed off the Plasma from other Sims to survive. But since vampires in this game have a bit of decency, you’re not allowed to feed off pregnant Sims, and with so many Sims marked pregnant, vampires in this game have become the most ethical undead creatures to ever exist in a video game.

EA Said “We’re Working On It”

We are actively investigating issues related to Sim pregnancy, including missing pregnancy tests, baby bumps, & interactions.

The good news is that EA has already acknowledged this issue and stated that they’re investigating the problem. As of today, they’ve already addressed some key issues, including a new patch to be rolled out that fixes the following:

  • The ability to drag spoiled items from Object and Sim inventories to the trash or sink has been restored.
  • The Sharing is Caring Whiteboard can be placed once again!
  • Gnomes have stopped constantly wiggling, jumping, or shaking after being placed from Build Mode.
  • Plants will keep their names and information when placing a Lot with gardened Plants from the Gallery.
  • Household members who have custom painting and are placed via Manage Households no longer lose their texture when you switch to that household. This includes Cats, Dogs, Horses, Werewolves, Fairies, and regular Sims.
  • Seed packets from Gnomes can now go into your Sim’s inventory with the “Put in Inventory” interaction.
  • Addressed stability issues introduced in a prior update on consoles. We will continue to monitor closely.

They fixed the dancing gnomes, but you might need to hang on a bit longer to cure the pregnancy scares. This is still a problem that EA is working to resolve and hasn’t provided a specific timeline.

If you’ve been reading all the shared experiences of other players from Discord or Reddit, what’s undeniable is that this bug has become pure comedic relief that we might’ve just needed amidst all the game industry drama that we’ve been exposed to lately. In true Sims fashion, sometimes the most chaotic moments create the best stories and I, for one, think that this is hands down one of the funniest bugs ever to affect a game.
