PEAK is a game with a lot going on, even given the rather simple idea behind the game. Your focus is to climb the mountain and reach the peak either by yourself or with the help of friends in a co-op lobby.

There are a lot of items you can find along the way that may help you, but some will have some adverse side effects. Knowing and understanding how these items work can be the difference between success and failure in an expedition.

The Cursed Skull is such an elusive item that you’ll only find it a handful of times throughout your playtime. This guide should help you understand what it is, how you get it, and how best to use it.

What is The Cursed Skull?

Well, the name Cursed Skull is incredibly accurate here. This item is a silver skull that has purple curse symbols coming off of it. It is ominous, strange, and very different from the other items in the game.

It has a few pretty crazy powers:

Instantly kills the user
Removes all negative effects
Removes any damage

The Cursed Skull does not revive dead teammates, but will heal any downed teammates.

This can be a massive help in certain situations, while in others it won’t help at all. Knowing when to use it is paramount if you’re hoping to reach the peak, especially on harder difficulties.

How to Find a Cursed Skull

There is no guaranteed way to find one of these. As with any item in the game, it will spawn randomly in luggage scattered on the mountain. Although there are no guarantees, there are certain conditions that have the Cursed Skull spawn more often.

The conditions are as follows:

Ancient luggage – These types of luggage have a greater chance of spawning mystical items in general.
Resurrection Statue – If no one is dead, these will provide high-tier loot instead of reviving someone.
Regular luggage – This is far less likely, but can still happen since luggage is randomized.

You’ll never be able to determine what exactly will come out of anything that spawns loot, but if you keep your eyes peeled, you can usually find something helpful. Whether the item is exactly what you want won’t be a matter you’re able to discuss with the RNG gods.

How Best to Use The Cursed Skull

If you’re playing with a few friends, and you happen across a Cursed Skull, you should probably take it with you. In that moment, it may not be helpful, but as the challenges you face get more difficult, it can be a good idea to have this prepared.

As I stated earlier, this mystical item will kill the user upon its use, but it will also remove any negative status effects or damage they might be suffering from. It can be a powerful tool when used correctly, but when used incorrectly, it may become a greater hurdle to overcome.

I’ll lay out some rules I use with my friends when we find one:

Use it only if you must – While it can be fun to throw a wrench into your friends’ plans, it may be a better idea to save it for when it’s necessary.
Keep it safe – Leaving it in a backpack is usually your best choice in case someone meets an unfortunate end.
Everyone needs a patsy – If one person is less skilled, you should focus on letting them use it and make the sacrifice.
Get a little risky – With this item in tow, you can be a bit more risky with the choices you make, since you’ll have an out no matter what.

Even with these tips, it’s important to remember that this is a sacrifice you’ll make for your team. Whoever is willing to do that is a hero and should be revived at the next possible opportunity.

Peak is a team game, but one person can make a big difference. Whether you’re the one making the sacrifice or the one benefitting from it, you should always remember to never leave a fellow scout behind.
