How To Find And Use All Simple Keys

One of the first items that might seem egregiously expensive in Hollow Knight: Silksong is the Simple Key. You’ll see this upon opening the merchant’s shop in Bone Bottom, and think to yourself, “500 rosaries? For a key? Outrageous!”

However, these keys open up some of the most interesting and useful content in the entire game. So while they may cost a pretty penny, picking them up is going to be well worth your while.

In this guide, I’ll go over the locations of every single Simple Key and the doors that they open up.

Simple Key #1

Bone Bottom

As I mentioned previously, the first key that you can find is in the Bone Bottom Merchants’ shop. This one is 500 rosaries, which is pretty expensive when you first start the game. It might be worth your while coming back to pick this one up a little bit later in your adventure.

Simple Key #2

Songclave

The second key is also sold by a merchant, but this time in Songclave. However, she won’t be there when you first arrive. Instead, you have to complete the Wandering Merchant quest that you can grab from the Wishboard.

Once Jubilana returns to Songclave, you can grab the key from her for 650 rosaries. Luckily, you’re right next to the long Citadel corridor, where you can farm more cash!

Simple Key #3

Sinner’s Road

The third key can be found in the Sinner’s Road area, and is a reward for defeating one of the large chain-wielding enemies. To get this one, you’ll need the Cling Gripfrom the Shellwood.

After climbing a large shaft full of spikes, you’ll emerge into a small arena where the enemy will drop from above. Take him out, and he will drop the key.

Simple Key #4

Sands of Karak

The fourth and final key can be found in the Sands of Karak area. This can only be accessed once you have the Clawline ability from the Underworks in Act 2. It’s a pretty tough area, but luckily, it doesn’t take too long to find the key.

Platform your way across the vine puzzles, all the way from the left-hand side of the area to the right. Check out our guide for full details. At the far east of the area is a bench. Rest there and pick up the key while you’re at it.

Door Location #1

Wormways

The first door that you’re likely to find is the one just below the Wormways entrance, above Bone Bottom. You can head west from Mosshome, across the gap and through the cave with the big acid spitter to find and unlock this door.

It opens up more of the Wormways area and allows you to obtain the Sharpdartand the Plasmium Phials.

Door Location #2

Sinner’s Road

While exploring the Sinner’s Road, you may have seen the Green Prince sitting in his cell. He may not ask you to open it up, but trust me, it’s well worth your while. Later on, he can be found in the Citadel, where you can learn more about his story.

Door Location #3

Deep Docks

You might remember the next door from when you were exploring the deep docks. However, this is most certainly not an early game area. Without the proper tools and preparation, the enemies are going to absolutely shred you. However, if you’re still up for the task, you can find some great tools here, like the Flintslate.

This area is necessary for progressing through Act 3; however, you can actually get here through the Far Fields once you have the Clawline. So in reality, this simple key door is a little redundant.

Door Location #4

High Halls

The final door is easily found in the High Halls area, just left of the bench and before the dreaded Forum fight.

In this room, you can find a huge number of rosaries as well as the Rosary Cannon tool.
