Verdania Full Guide & Walkthrough

If you’re deep into Hollow Knight: Silksong, having fought your way into Act 3, then you’re probably really curious about what Verdania is. It’s on any map you can find online, but finding your way there seems tricky at first.

This is because the area itself is only accessible after you’ve taken your first dive into the Abyss, and gotten the Silk Song that allows you to peer into the dreams of someone powerful. After that, we can get started.

I’d recommend coming in here with quite a few masks, as it can get pretty tricky with a few of the enemies in Verdania. That, and you should at least have three nail upgrades at this point, if not the maximum of four.

You can do Verdania instead of one of the three hearts you need to collect for the main quest. I find it to be far more manageable than all three, but especially easy in comparison to Karmelita, so if you want to avoid that fight, you’re in the right place.

How to Find Verdania

To start our journey into Verdania, you can head into Greymoor, and make your way all the way over to the far-right side, below where you got Thread Storm. You’ll notice the previously indented wall has now completely broken down, so enter inside.

After jumping a few gaps, you’ll find the Green Prince, standing over what remains of his lover. He’s laid his love down in the place they used to rule together, and you can play your Needolin while holding down to enter that dream.

First and foremost, though, head to the right and break the rocks on the upper platform. Watch out for spiders as you make your way to the right, dodging a boulder while climbing a wall, and hilariously knocking a spider off the ledge into the pit of spikes.

At the end of this hallway is a bench in a camp of some rather deceased bugs, and a map of Verdania. There aren’t any more benches where we’re going, so the map isn’t going to be the most useful thing, but it’ll be helpful for navigation after every death.

Entering Verdania

Return to the Green Prince, and start playing your Needolin while holding down to enter his dream. You enter into the lush, green realm of Lost Verdania, and can speak to the Green Prince inside his mind, then head to the right.

There are these bulbous, green plants you can smack, which spawn a few bulbs for you to bounce off of, similar to the orbs in Sands of Karak. Use these to bounce your way over to the right, where you’ll find a mossy, stone statue of a mantis.

Break open the statue, and run down the path of glowing orbs it leads you down, jumping on the Lily Pad and using the Faydown Cloak to jump up the ledge. There is a time limit to this, but it’s extremely generous, so don’t worry too much.

Fountain Essence

Heading back from the first statue, hit the bulb, and bounce up the fruits, being mindful of the spikes. We’re heading to the right, first. You’ll encounter a flying bug that loves backing up and tossing projectiles, so either rush it down or use your tools to kill it.

Continue on forward, be wary of the second lilypad as it has the intent to kill, then jump up on the ledge and hit the glowy bulb. This path takes you up higher, to a very non-threatening leaf bug, and makes you dash jump up to the ledge on the right.

This vertical hallway you end up in connects most of the areas in Lost Verdania, so we’ll start with the lower right room and work our way up. In here, you’ll see the Green Prince resting by the lake, and you can speak to him once again.

Make your way up the platforms, dash and jump off the higher one, and use your grapple into a glide to close the distance and clear the spikes. Here, you’ll find an ancient tablet essentially telling you to activate three fountains to get your essence.

The Fountains

The first fountain can be found by treading across the lake and entering the somewhat hidden entrance to your right. From there, jump up the wall, hit the big bulb, and use your Clawline to ascend the glowy fruits, which is rather tricky to do. Make sure to use your Faydown Cloak wisely, here.

You should be able to reach another big bulb on the left side, which makes you platform across more fruits to get to the right, where you’ll find a switch to activate your second fountain, and probably take enough time doing that to make the bulbs disappear and make you start over.

Clawline over to the left to restart the big bulb, then make your way up to the one above the fountain room. Bounce to the left, grapple through the spike tunnel, and keep grappling into the final fountain room, which should have changed the sign at the bottom.

Step on the large pressure plate, and watch as the somewhat ruined wedding altar comes to rise, asking you to play your music for it. Once you do, you get five essences all at once, and you can head out of this room once you’ve grabbed them.

Upper Statue

As you exit out into the tall room on the right of the map, ascend up by climbing up the walls, ignore the exit to your left for now, and hit a bulb to start another platforming sequence. This one is rather tight, but the timer isn’t, so be very careful and use your wings.

Once you ascend the bulbs, hit the statue up top, and start following the trail downwards. This timer is a little strict, but you can float down gracefully and always get all the orbs in time, as long as you don’t miss any of them.

Mid-Section Dark Room

Making our way to the upper-left entrance of the tall room, there’s more killer lilypads here and a few enemies to contend with, but nothing too bad. Taking the big bulb in the middle of this long room takes you up to speak to the Green Prince, but we can’t do much else there yet.

Drop down from there, onto a ledge that leads into a little home, which is very dark on the inside. There’s a few pestering flying enemies that can spawn in here, but it’s nothing you can’t handle, so take them out real quick.

Make your way to the left edge of the room, hit the glowing, leaf-clad object embedded in a bunch of similar shells, and collect the orbs it spawns. You can do this without killing the enemies first, they just make it a hell of a lot more annoying to do.

These orbs aren’t super hard to grab, primarily making you use your wings and collect them somewhat quickly, with the final few wrapping around back to the left side of the house. Once you get that one, head back outside to your right and drop back in the water.

Left-Most Essence

As you enter the room to the left, you’ll be ambushed by a rather unfriendly gang of mantises. They make you wait very patiently for your turn to attack, and for that reason, I recommend coming in here with the parry and using it to get a ton of damage on these dudes.

Open up the gate, and drop down this tall room, then head to the right to open up the vine-clad shortcut on the floor, which will make the runback much easier if you ever die. Heading back up to the first room on the left, there are a few more mantises to take care of, so get to parrying.

There are quite a few stone ledges over water containing several more enemies to fend off, and once you get up to the top and jump onto the ledge to your left, you’ll see the statue. Break it open, and collect the orbs from there, hopefully with minimal mantis interference.

Big Room Left-Side Essences

Jumping back up the tall room and climbing the wall to your right, you’ll see another entrance on your left that will lead you into a massive, open room with two essences to find. Kill a hopping, deer-like critter as you ascend the platforms, and head over to the left.

After you cross the lake, get up the ledge, and run directly into the wall, which is a secret opening to find another big bulb. Jump up the small bulbs, and smack the statue here as usual, making you a very small line of orbs before you get another essence.

After you get out of that hole, dash jump and use your wings to get on the small, triangular platform. Jump up even more platforms, then jump over to the upper right wall, which is breakable on top, so naturally, bust through it.

In this lake, there’s some flower essence that’s just barely out of reach. To grab it, move the lilypad over to the right by swimming into it, and either double jump or super jump up. The orbs it spawns are also pretty free, so grapple your way to victory. You should see a massive burst of light, now.

Palestag Trail

Jumping up the platforms to your left, you’ll notice a glowing feather on top of one that’s just out of reach. Clawline towards it, and double jump after to climb its left side, where you can get up to inspect this feather, and enter the room above.

In here, you can speak to the Green Prince again, who laments the time he and his partner hunted a Palestag. To the left of him, smack the pile of flowers, and follow the trail of orbs they leave behind, which are incredibly easy to grab, only requiring a wall jump over spikes at the end.

Head further to the right, following more glowing feathers, where you’ll catch a glimpse of the beautiful Palestag itself. Follow it into the tunnel, grapple over the spikes, and top up on silk before you drop into the next room.

Palestag Fight

In here, you’ll contend with the Palestag itself. This fight isn’t really hard, as it can only run away and throw slow projectiles at you, but it is extremely obnoxious. Remember to use any projectile you brought in, and clawline to it when you get the chance.

To dodge the projectiles, wait until they start moving, and then go where the first ones to move aren’t, then react to any other projectiles coming your way accordingly. Getting hits in is the hardest part, which is why clawline is a godsend that makes this way faster.

If you came in with the parry and happen to die to the Palestag, go rest at the bench and swap to the Pale Nails, as they’re great at getting in damage on this thing. Once this thing goes down after what feels like an eternity, you can head into the hallway to your left.

Empty Throne

Head back to the upper-middle section of Verdania, and hit the bulb in the middle of the lake. In place of where the Green Prince was sulking about being unable to remember something, you’ll see a house has appeared, and is your final goal here.

There’s an annoying mantis soldier blocking the way, but you can take care of him by playing patiently, and hopefully not take damage. Make your way to the top and enter the home, where you’ll find the Green Prince, ready to fight.

Before you start that, though, make sure to go right from the entrance until you find a clover-covered portion of the room with a hole in the ceiling. Super Jump up, and you’ll get a sweet, sweet silk refill, which ensures you’re ready for the fight.

Clover Dancers

For this fight, I recommend grabbing Flea Brew and the Flintslate, as buffing your nail helps you focus on the attacks far better than throwable tools can. That said, these guys are near identical to the Cogwork Dancers, but much harder.

You can only hit the Green Prince, so keep a very close eye on him, but watch out for any white lines that cross paths with your current location, and get out of the way quickly. Once they get together in the middle, the fight changes up quite a bit.

They summon a massive tornado attack that spins around the whole arena. To avoid this, dash forward, jump up the wall, and clawline over, which gives you more than enough time to move out of the way.

Use your heals during the full-screen slash attack, making sure to heal mid-air in a safe zone during the second set of slashes. Once your Cogwork Dancers muscle memory kicks in, you should have this one down, and secured the secret fourth powerful heart of Pharloom.
