There are a total of four different characters in Absolum, each with their own strengths and unique abilities. While players start out with two characters, they’ll have to progress to a certain point in the game to unlock the other two.
The great part about Absolum is that there is a character for everyone, since each focuses on a different playstyle. Whether you enjoy aerial attacks, magic spells, hard-hitting punches, or sword-focused gameplay, there is a character for you.
In this guide, we discuss how to unlock all characters in Absolum. This guide also explains each character’s moveset, so you can get a better understanding of who works best for you.
Absolum Starting Characters
There are two starting characters in Absolum: Karl and Galandra. Players can freely switch between these two characters right from the start of the game.
Karl uses his fists as his main attack and a gun for Arcana attacks, making him great at dealing both close and long-range damage. His heavy attack enables him to execute a slam, where he punches downward, stunning the enemy and disrupting their stance.
Galandra uses punches and kicks for her main attack, but she comes equipped with a sword that can be utilized through the alternate attack button. Her sword is even deadlier through her Arcana skills, which executes powerful strikes that stun enemies and deals high damage.
How to Unlock Cider
Cider can be unlocked after beating the first boss in the Grandery. After defeating Gazorg, Son of Zorg, and starting a new run, you’ll encounter Cider on the main path near the start of your run, and she will engage with you in dialogue.
The next time you run into Cider will be in the forest area, near the Underking’s Castle. It’s here where you will need to aid her in combat, and after defeating all the enemies, she will agree to meet you back at the Sanctuary.
The next time you return to the Sanctuary, Cider will be officially unlocked, and you can use her in future runs. You can find her in the same place where Gasandra and Karl hang out, around the bonfire.
Cider’s main attacks are similar to Galandra’s, where she uses punches and kicks to her advantage. However, her heavy attack causes her to shoot a grappling hook and grab onto enemies, allowing her to jump into the air and deal aerial damage.
Cider’s Arcana abilities consist of projectiles and long-range attacks that can hit multiple targets, making her the perfect choice for crowd control.
How to Unlock Brome
Brome can be unlocked a little further into the game. First, you’ll have to make it to the second region of the game, Jaroba, which can be reached after defeating the Underking and riding the boat.
Once you reach Jaroba, continue on the linear path until you reach a small cutscene of enemies speaking to an NPC who is trapped in vines. Defeat these enemies and then destroy the vines to free Vikhanna the Joyful, who will mark the location of Brome on your map.
Besides marking the location of Brome on your map, Vikhanna the Joyful will also return to the Sanctuary and become a merchant. She is very valuable as she allows you to upgrade your Rituals, making your future runs easier than before.
Now, to officially unlock Brome, you have to make it to the location marked on your map. This area can be reached by simply progressing through Jaroba and taking the paths that head north.
Eventually, you will reach Brome’s location, and you will be tasked with helping him in combat. After defeating all the enemies, Brome will return to the Sanctuary and unlock as a playable character.
Brome is definitely one of the best characters in the game due to his spellcasting abilities, which are helpful against endgame bosses.
For basic attacks, he uses his staff in quick succession, and his heavy attack consists of a spell that deals damage all around him. Meanwhile, his Arcana skills focus on long-range magic with AoE.
