Draftwise Expands Agentic Tools + Its Team – Artificial Lawyer

Draftwise has announced new capabilities for its agentic AI offering, and the expansion of its team – which includes the hire of Emily Lew, previously at Slaughter and May, who joined earlier this year in London.

On the tech side of things, contract-focused Draftwise explained that there were three main aspects to the new tool expansion.

‘Building on the successes and insights gained through the Gunderson partnership [ which is a multi-year developmental relationship with the US law firm ] and work with early users, the latest Draftwise release introduces:

• ‘Intelligent Precedent Benchmarking: Lawyers can instantly analyze what’s standard across precedent and identify unusual terms. Simple questions like ‘What other reps and warranties might my client want in this agreement?’ or ‘How does this clause compare to recent similar agreements?’ deliver insights that previously required hours of manual research.
• Automated Term Sheet Validation: Draftwise checks draft agreements against term sheets in seconds, identifying alignment issues through instructions like ‘Check this SPA against the uploaded term sheet’. This eliminates time-consuming manual cross-referencing.
• Strategic Contract Guidance: Advanced capabilities provide sophisticated legal strategy, such as ‘Delete buyer/seller reps that my client hasn’t agreed to in the past 2 years’ or ‘Make my clause more buyer-friendly based on recent similar deals’. The AI learns from a firm’s historical practices to provide tailored recommendations and can extract essential information from your ad-hoc request.’

And on the human side, Draftwise has now grown to nearly 70 employees globally in the US, EMEA and APAC, with significant expansion in London and New York. Plus it has strengthened its legal expertise, including notable hires of three former practicing lawyers:

– Emily Lew (pictured) joined earlier this year from Magic Circle firm Slaughter and May, where she led the Client & Practice Solutions team for five years. She now heads client engagement efforts in London at Draftwise.

– Elizabete Ludborza, a former founder and London-based attorney with in-house experience, has joined the GTM team.

– Stephanie Nweke practiced at Wilson Sonsini in the Venture Capital group and is now on the GTM team in New York City.

A new London office now supports the growing international team, and a significant expansion of the New York office in Manhattan is planned for the fall.
