Warning: Spoilers ahead for Resident Alien season 4, episode 7, “Tunnel Vision.”Resident Alien season 4, episode 7, “Tunnel Vision,” ends with Sara Tomko’s Asta Twelvetrees uttering two cryptic words: “They’re here,” but the show’s penultimate installment ends immediately after without clarifying what Asta meant. With it now confirmed that Resident Alien season 5 isn’t happening, the sci-fi dramedy has just one more episode to wrap things up.
A key member of the Resident Alien cast since the very beginning, Tomko’s character has become more and more involved in extraterrestrial goings-on as the show has progressed. She has been a vital friend and ally to Alan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderspeigle, and her experiences in “Tunnel Vision” make her an even more compelling figure.
After being caught up in the fight between Harry and the Mantid, Asta’s scrape with death required an unconventional treatment – an infusion of Harry’s alien blood. The twist is likely the explanation for how Asta has gained the foresight she displays at the end of the episode, but there are a few possibilities when it comes to who or what she’s talking about.

More Grey Aliens Have Arrived In Orbit
The Greys Could Finally Have Even Greater Numbers
Asta’s “they’re here” tease could be her sensing that the Grey Aliens currently aboard the moon base in Earth’s orbit finally have backup. The nefarious race has been a prominent threat throughout most of Resident Alien, but how many there are nearby has always been left fairly ambiguous.
There’s no real evidence that, despite being foiled at the end of Resident Alien season 3, the Greys have given up trying to transform Earth’s atmosphere and take the planet for themselves. That said, it’s also been proven that there aren’t enough of them to win against Harry and his friends.
So, Asta may somehow be sensing the arrival of the Greys’ additional forces. If so, the upcoming finale could be a thrilling showdown between the Greys at full force and an underprepared human race. What’s perhaps unclear is just how Asta would be able to tell if this were imminent.

Harry’s People Will Finally Be In The Resident Alien Season 4 Finale
Alan Tudyk’s Character Could Be In For A Mass Reunion
Harry’s race has never been named on-screen in any way that’s easily repeated. While Tudyk’s character has shared quite a lot of information about his homeworld and his people’s customs, Resident Alien has been hesitant to introduce more members of Harry’s species. Stephen Root’s Ed, Harry’s father, is the only other member of Harry’s race to appear so far.
An argument could be made about Bridget being Harry’s race, but he’s actually half-human.
With the show about to end, now would be the time for Harry’s people to be shown in far greater numbers. After receiving blood from Harry to aid in her recovery, Resident Alien has set up some kind of big change for Asta. Part of this transformation could easily be the ability to tell when others who have the same blood as her are nearby.
Harry has demonstrated plenty of abilities afforded to him by his alien genetics, but the show hasn’t revealed whether or not detecting other nearby members of his race is one of those skills. He was human when he was reunited with his father, so that scene doesn’t confirm or deny the ability either.
So, it’s entirely possible that Harry’s people have an innate sense of when there are others in the area, and that could be what Asta is giving voice to when she says “they’re here” at the end of “Tunnel Vision.” What’s worrying is that Harry’s race has often been portrayed as villainous, so they could pose a threat.

The Mantids Have Arrived To Avenge The Death Of One Of Their Kind
The Mantid’s Death May Not Be The Final Solution Harry & Company Were Looking For
After already appearing to be killed earlier in Resident Alien season 4, the Mantid finally came to a permanent end in “Tunnel Vision.” Harry’s victory over the Mantid certainly makes it seem as though the threat has been dispelled, but that may not be the case. The Mantid’s death could call for retaliation from the other Mantids.
Just as some insects can be drawn towards the remains of members of their species, the Mantids could now be aware that one of their kind has been killed, which means they may have arrived on Earth to seek out Harry and the others who assisted in the fight. One Mantid was terrifying and dangerous enough, so the upcoming finale could pose a monstrous challenge.

There Are Far More Disguised Aliens On Earth Than It Has Seemed
Harry May Not Be Alone
The generally held belief is that Harry is one of very few aliens on Earth. Bodies like the Galactic Housing Council tend to keep track of aliens living on other planets, so this suggests that Tudyk’s character is pretty much an isolated case. That said, this has never been confirmed. Asta’s “they’re here” tease may be in relation to other aliens on Earth.
While Harry has never been shown to be able to sense nearby aliens, the combination of his blood with Asta’s human physiology may have combined to allow her to unconsciously achieve this very specific task. So, Asta may not be referring to the arrival of anyone new, but instead voicing her surprise that Harry is just one of many aliens in disguise on Earth.
If this is the case, then other aliens must not be in Patience. If they were, then Max Hawthorne (Judah Prehn) would have spotted them long ago. As one of just two Resident Alien characters who can see through Harry’s human disguise and the disguise of other aliens, it wouldn’t make sense for more extraterrestrials to have been lurking in the show’s main location.
The Writers Could Be Gearing Up For A Last-Minute Piece Of Sci-Fi Worldbuilding
The show has drip-fed its alien races into the show very gradually since the pilot episode in 2021. Harry has always been the show’s central alien, and any new lifeforms from beyond the stars have only ever been included to drive the plot forward. However, the rate at which new aliens have been introduced has been steadily increasing.
So, I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Resident Alien wanted to end with a last-minute twist of another fictitious race entering the fray at the last minute. The Pleiadeans have already been referenced earlier in Resident Alien season 4, so it’s possible they’ll make an on-screen debut, and they already have a connection to Harry’s people.
It would perhaps be a little strange for Resident Alien to introduce a new race in its final episode, especially with them set up to be a focal point. That said, I’m not against the idea if it’s well executed. The show’s worldbuilding is often brilliantly done, so I have no doubt showrunner Chris Sheridan would do this respectfully without eclipsing the main characters.

Asta’s Supernatural Experience Means She Can Now Communicate With Her Ancestors
Resident Alien Season 4 Has Already Softly Set Up This Possibility
Resident Alien‘s last-minute supernatural twist took me by surprise in “Tunnel Vision.” Asta’s ghost appearing before Harry as she clung to life didn’t seem like the kind of thing I’d come to expect from the sci-fi dramedy. Regardless, I liked it, and it’s part of the show’s canon now. Asta may have escaped death, but the experience has surely changed her.
Earlier in Resident Alien season 4, the show revealed a connection between Asta’s ancestors and Harry’s people. It never really led anywhere beyond being mentioned, so now may be the time to pay off the twist. After Asta’s near-death experience and spending a brief time as a ghost, she could have a connection to the afterlife.
So, Asta saying “They’re here” could be her announcing to the audience that she’s in touch with the deceased characters who interacted with Harry’s race long ago. She doesn’t sound or look particularly afraid when she utters the words; it’s more a look of intrigue. So, Resident Alien season 4’s finale could be set to double down on its newfound love of the supernatural.
Resident Alien season 4’s finale airs on Syfy and USA Network on August 8, and will be available to stream on Peacock the following Friday.
