A Band of Brothers replacement show, SAS: Rogue Heroes, is experiencing a resurgence on global streaming charts. Created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, Band of Brothers is widely regarded as one of HBO’s greatest miniseries of all time through its accurate and visceral portrayal of D-Day and other pivotal moments during World War II.
While no show can truly replace Band of Brothers, SAS: Rogue Heroes is an arguably worthy successor. Helmed by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, it follows the British Army Special Air Services (SAS) throughout World War II’s Western Desert Campaign in Egypt and Libya.
As per FlixPatrol as of August 5, SAS: Rogue Heroes is at the number eight spot on HBO Max’s global streaming charts. It is in HBO Max’s top 10 for 28 countries, including Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Sweden.
What This Means For SAS: Rogue Heroes
The show’s global streaming resurgence is a testament to its widespread appeal, especially with international audiences. All six of the SAS: Rogue Heroes season 2 episodes were released throughout January 2025, yet the series is still managing to be a streaming hit months later.
Overwhelmingly positive reception from critics and general audiences definitely helps in this area, with a 100% Tomatometer score and 86% Popcornmeter score speaking volumes about the show’s quality. This is not a quality show that is being overlooked, though, given its current impressive performance on HBO Max.
The cast is another selling point for the show, which features Connor Swindells (Sex Education), Jack O’Connell (Sinners), and Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones). Sinners being arguably the biggest popular culture phenomenon of 2025 has brought further exposure to O’Connell and other stellar works he has been in, including SAS: Rogue Heroes.
Jack O’Connell plays the vampire Remmick in Sinners.
Knight has also confirmed that season 3 is in development, that he will soon finish the scripts, and that filming is imminent. The streaming numbers on HBO Max bode well for season 3 to have the show’s best viewership yet, given the interest there still is in the show long after season 2 concluded, and in a wide variety of countries across the globe.
Our Take On SAS: Rogue Heroes’ Streaming Resurgence
SAS: Rogue Heroes is among the best war television shows in recent years, and this is reflected by the recent streaming numbers. It does not have the same level of recognition as Band of Brothers, but if it continues to climb the streaming charts, it may become a far more well-known show by the time season 3 is released.
