Suits’ Jessica Pearson Deserves Her Own Suits LA-Style Spinoff

Gina Torres should have returned one more time as her Suits character, attorney Jessica Pearson, during the first and only season of NBC’s Suits LA. The revival of the popular legal drama could have brought back a fan-favorite and given her proper closure. However, fans will have to settle for less and never get the proper Suits spinoff they truly deserve.

What Suits LA’s Ted Black (Stephen Amell) really needed was an ally, a confidant to turn to at his law firm, Black Lane. Right from the beginning, Ted had grudges with his former buddies, Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt) and Rick Dodsen (Bryan Greenberg). Ted had romantic interests, but he needed someone to break down the law for him.

Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) could have filled in the void and been that ally he desperately needed. Bringing her to Suits LA would have given it a chance to succeed. Unfortunately, with it being canceled after a single season, we’ll likely never get to see Jessica in her own Suits LA-style spinoff that she desperately deserves.

Suits LA Should Have Included Jessica Pearson As A Main Character

Without a doubt, the Firefly actress should have been part of the ensemble cast for Suits LA. In his backstory, Ted was a former federal prosecutor who self-exiled himself from New York and reinvented himself as an entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles. Jessica is the only other person who could understand Ted’s journey after she voluntarily ousted herself from the law and entered the political world in Chicago.

Although Gabriel Macht and Louis Litt reprised their roles as lawyers Harvey Specter and Louis Litt in separate cameos, their guest appearances did not really contribute to the plot. With Suits LA including Jessica in the roster, her extensive knowledge of criminal law could have brought more drama to the high-stakes of Ted’s murder trial.

Just as Ted is trying to rectify past mistakes, Jessica sympathizes with him deeply because she also has to redeem herself from her shady wrongdoings in the Windy City. Suits LA missed out on a huge opportunity, as Ted and Jessica could have connected more on a personal level.

A Jessica Pearson Spinoff Could Finally Explain Her Cliffhanger Ending

Back in 2019, Pearson left viewers with unresolved questions after the cliffhanger ending. During the first season finale, Jessica, who became a political fixer, discovered Mayor Bobby Novak (Morgan Spector) had committed murder. What was she going to do with that crucial information? Would she blackmail the mayor in order to leave politics and get back into practicing the law? How was Jessica going to take down the mayor of Chicago and put him behind prison bars?

Another Suits spinoff featuring Pearson could have resolved the most pressing question and helped fans find a bit of closure. The new Pearson show could also build to the reunion that fans really want. With her chapter in Chicago closed, Jessica would finally be able to reunite with Harvey and his wife, Donna (Sarah Rafferty), after being a no-show at their wedding.

Suits LA shoehorned guest appearances from the original flagship series, and missed out on bringing back one integral character, Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres). Fans were robbed of any closure after having watched Jessica’s unsolved ending. Audiences will now have to settle with the last image of Jessica as she contemplated her next move.
