Leighton Meester’s Good Cop/Bad Cop Climbs The Charts

Leighton Meester is making a return to television, with her police procedural getting some positive buzz. Beloved amongst a generation of fans for her memorable performance as Blair Waldorf on The CW’s Gossip Girl, the 39-year-old actor has been attached to several high-profile projects over the past year across streaming, cable, and broadcast television.

Meester recently completed a recurring arc on The Buccaneers season 2. She made her debut as Nan, the biological mother of Annabel (Kristine Froseth), in the premiere. She’ll also appear in Nobody Wants This season 2, as a rival to Kristen Bell’s Joanne, andhas a guest role in an upcoming HBO dramedy led by Bottoms star Rachel Sennott.

Good Cop/Bad Cop Is Climbing The Charts

Good Cop/Bad Cop is climbing the charts on Prime Video. Mixing comedy and mystery, the police procedural focuses on sibling detectives who work in a small Pacific Northwest town. They’re under the watchful eye of the police chief, who is also their father. Created by John Quaintance, the series also stars Luke Cook (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Dexter alum Clancy Brown.

The cast includes Devon Terrell, Grace Chow, Blazey Best, Philippa Northeast, William McKenna, Shamita Siva, and Scott Lee.

A joint venture between The CW, The Roku Channel, Stan in Australia, and The U.K.’s ITV, Good Cop/Bad Cop season 1 was recently licensed to Prime Video in the U.S. According to FlixPatrol, the procedural was in Prime Video’s Top 10 in recent weeks. This was addressed by Quaintance, who celebrated the dramedy’s Top 10 status, as seen in the post below.

Good Cop/Bad Cop season 2 has not been renewed. But with a positive Rotten Tomatoes score of 90%, with a matching audience score, any bump in viewership could increase the chances that the dramedy gets picked up for more episodes. On the whole, the agreement with Prime Video has seemed to help the procedural’s visibility.

Part of the fun of Meester’s small screen comeback, which marks her first regular presence on TV since the ABC sitcom Single Parents, is that she gets to play different kinds of characters. From the Bridgerton-like themes of The Buccaneers to a former mean girl in Nobody Wants This season 2, the light police series deserves a chance to grow with its own second season.
