Resident Evil fans should be prepared for August 19, as it’s bound to be an exciting day for Resident Evil Requiem. The game isn’t releasing until February 27, 2026, but anticipation for the newest entry in the beloved survival horror franchise is already reaching a fever pitch, and has reportedly already smashed two franchise records. Fans have been eager to learn more about lead protagonist Grace Ashcroft, the gameplay, and more, and we may learn a lot more soon.
According to Geoff Keighley on X, there will be an exclusive new look at Resident Evil Requiem during Gamescom opening night next Tuesday, August 19. The pre-show will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT and will be available to stream on YouTube and Twitch via thegameawards accounts.
Could We See More Gameplay?
RE Requiem has been confirmed to be playable at Gamescom, so this new footage should give us a better look at gameplay and major story events. There are two big questions on a lot of fans’ minds going into Gamescom. One: Will Leon Kennedy be playable in Requiem after an abundance of rumors? And two: will the Gamescom demo be made public for download during the show? We may get answers to both those questions soon.
RE Requiem has been confirmed to have dual camera perspectives, letting fans play through the game entirely in first- or third-person. That might be the most ambitious announced feature of Requiem, so fans in attendance will likely be testing and comparing both styles. We may also get a pre-order date announcement.
Resident Evil Requiem Is One Of The Most Anticipated Games Of 2026
Survival Horror Is Back
It’s been four years (it will be five years before Requiem releases) since Resident Evil Village, and while the stellar RE remakes have provided fans with great reimagined experiences, fans have been eagerly awaiting the mainline future of the series. With Silent Hill getting two new entries in less than a year when Silent Hill f releases in September and Cronos: The New Dawn releasing in September, too, it’s an exciting time to be a horror fan.
Capcom has a stacked 2026 line-up with new IP Pragmata, new entries in the Onimusha and Monster Hunter Stories franchises, and continued support of Street Fighter 6 and Monster Hunter Wilds. Resident Evil Requiem is the cherry on top and will likely jump-start even more horror excitement for 2026.
