The Battlefield 6 open beta is gearing up for its second weekend after the first smashed records on Steam. Roughly two months ahead of its full launch on October 10, Battlefield 6‘s open beta is giving players a chance to try the game for free, with a limited selection of maps and game modes. It’s also an important event for the developers at Battlefield Studios, who will be collecting all kinds of data on network connectivity, weapon balance, and more.

The first weekend was divided into two segments, with the first two days reserved for those who secured beta early access. The latter two days were when the actual open beta began, opening the floodgates and leading to rather large server queues – though I personally never waited more than a couple of minutes to be let through. A week later, Battlefield 6 open beta weekend two is following a similar schedule, but with no early access required.

When BF6 Open Beta Weekend 2 Begins

August 14-17

The second weekend of Battlefield 6‘s open beta officially begins on August 14 at 08:00 UTC, and will last for exactly four days through August 17 and into early the next morning (for the United States), according to EA. 08:00 UTC is the universal start time, so here’s a table of what that time translates to in various time zones:

Open beta weekend two ends at 08:00 UTC on August 18, so for much of the Eastern Hemisphere, it will actually continue through most of Monday.

What’s New In The Open Beta’s Second Weekend

Debut Of BF6 Rush

Battlefield 6‘s second open beta weekend will only build on the first, including giving players more time to complete challenges. Every map and mode from the first weekend returns, so you’ll be able to play Conquest, Breakthrough, and various smaller modes on Siege of Cairo, Liberation Peak, and Iberian Offensive once again.

Weekend two introduces a new map, Empire State, alongside the following new game modes:

• Rush
• Squad Deathmatch
• Closed Weapon Breakthrough

Rush is the third pillar of the All-Out Warfare suite, alongside Conquest and Breakthrough. It’s a long-running mode originating as Gold Rush in Battlefield: Bad Company, and joins its All-Out Warfare peers as one of the definitive Battlefield experiences. Squad Deathmatch has also appeared in many series installments previously, pitting four teams of four against each other to be the first to reach a set number of kills – 50 in Battlefield 6.

Closed Weapon Breakthrough is an experiment to test an ongoing debate among Battlefield‘s most dedicated players. Having closed weapons means certain types are locked to specific classes; e.g., Assault is the only class that can use assault rifles, SMGs are reserved for Engineers, etc. Most older Battlefield titles feature closed weapons in all game modes, but more modern entries do not. BF6 has open weapons by default, but Battlefield Studios seems to be contemplating changing this.

Without any sort of early access requirement, the second weekend of the beta is entirely open – all you have to do is download the beta client. The game has so far received a fairly positive response, and the second weekend will inject some much-needed variety, potentially setting Battlefield 6 up for a successful launch on October.
