Elsbeth season 3 will premiere on Sunday, October 12, 2025, and the cast continues to get more star-studded with every new announcement. Previously, Elsbeth announced Stephen Colbert would be appearing as a fictional late-night host in at least one episode. This comes on the heels of CBS’ cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
Colbert wasn’t the only comedian announced for Elsbeth season 3. Amy Sedaris will play Laurel Hammond-Muntz, the writer and executive producer of said fictional late-night show. Now, TV Insider has reported David Cross will join the cast of Elsbeth season 3.
The actor and comedian is best known for his role on Arrested Development, where he played discredited psychiatrist and never-nude Tobias Fünke. He also co-created Mr. Show With Bob And David with Bob Odenkirk, an HBO sketch comedy show that ran for four seasons. He’ll be joining a season that also includes Andy Richter and Lindsay Mendez.
Cross will play Nolan Hurst, an insider trader recently released from prison. After attempting to purchase a rare doll on the black market, things turn deadly, and Nolan finds himself taking hostages in a New York toy store. Viewers will have to watch the episode to see how the characters handle this bonkers situation.
What David Cross’s Guest Star Appearance Means For Elsbeth Season 3
Elsbeth may be a police procedural, but adding Cross to the cast list shows, the CBS series isn’t a typical detective drama. From season one, Elsbeth has leaned into comedy, making it unique compared to similar shows like Diagnosis: Murder. Although the show is a spin-off of The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Elsbeth remains distinctive in its tone.
Cross is one of the funniest actors of our time, and he’ll be joined on season 3 by other huge comedy voices. Clearly, Elsbeth wants to attract comedy fans while still providing interesting and nail-biting detective plot lines. Elsbeth season 3 will have something for everyone.
Our Take On David Cross’s Elsbeth Role
Cross is a phenomenal actor, and I’m positive he’ll bring an incredible performance to Elsbeth season 3. It’ll be interesting to see him in this role. While Elsbeth has comedic moments, it’s also a drama. Cross typically appears on comedy shows, so this new character will be a treat to see.
So far, Elsbeth has done an amazing job casting people for season 3. I’m sure any other stars that are announced will be of a similar caliber to Cross and Colbert. That means Elsbeth season 3 will be must-watch TV.
