Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Fantastic Four #2!The Fantastic Four are always pulling off incredible feats that can genuinely only be classified as fantastic, and their latest one is no different. In fact, for two members of Marvel’s First Family, it might be their most impressive feat to date.
In Fantastic Four #2 by Ryan North and Humberto Ramos, the Fantastic Four are scattered across time. In the previous issue, Sorcerer Supreme Doom sent each member to different points in history. Reed, Johnny, and Ben were sent to the past (at different points in the past) while Sue was sent to the distant future (dead-Earth distant).
Reed had a fail-safe for this very predicament. He stashed a time machine in what’s called a ‘Forever Stone’ that only the Fantastic Four could access. That means, no matter where they are in the timeline, they can always get back home, as the Forever Stone will be there. The only problem is that Sue couldn’t find the Stone, which leads both her and Reed to pull off the aforementioned impressive feat.
Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic Push Their Powers to the Limit
Since Sue was sent to the future, she was the one who needed to find the time machine and pick up the rest of them, as the Forever Stone wouldn’t be available to her if anyone from the past opened it first. And, since she hadn’t saved them yet, Reed concluded that Sue couldn’t find the Stone. So, Reed made Sue a roadmap.
Reed spent decades burying artificial diamonds deeper into the Earth than anyone had ever gone before, so that they’d remain for billions of years, and he arranged them into giant arrow formations pointing to the Forever Stone. Then, Sue made the Earth’s crust invisible to see the diamond arrows, which led her directly to the time machine.
Fantastic Four Reminds Fans How Brilliant and Powerful the Team Is
Reed stretching himself into the Earth further down than anyone has gone before is insane to think about, as is the fact that Sue made the Earth’s crust invisible. Both heroes pushed their powers to their limits, and they did so not while fighting a villain, but by solving a problem that shouldn’t have been possible to solve, effectively working together billions of years apart.
The beauty of this issue is that it reminds fans how brilliant the Fantastic Four truly are, while also showing fans that they are insanely powerful. All in all, it’s clear to see how the Fantastic Four‘s latest feat is arguably their most impressive.
