After joining the cast of Peacemaker season 2, Michael Rooker explained how his role allowed him to have a Guardians of the Galaxy reunion. During Peacemaker season 2, Rooker will appear as Red St. Wild, a character who has been revealed to be an eagle hunter who is after the titular character’s pet.
After the ending of Peacemaker season 1 fascinated fans, the show’s second season return has received positive reviews. Even though Rooker previously played Savant in The Suicide Squad, fans are overjoyed to see the celebrated actor join Peacemaker’s entertaining cast. Rooker’s Peacemaker role also allows him to reunite with Guardians of the Galaxy and Peacemaker’s boss, James Gunn.
While speaking with ScreenRant during the red carpet premiere of Peacemaker season 2, Rooker was asked about what led to him reuniting with Gunn while filming the show. In response, Rooker revealed the hilariously nonchalant way his latest collaboration with the DCU boss happened. Check out his comments below:
ScreenRant: Congratulations on another collaboration with James Gunn. You two have worked together for so many years. I can only imagine that this wasn’t really an audition, he gave you a call. What did that call look like?
Michael Rooker: No, he just gave me a call, and I was doing a job down in South Carolina, and he needed me to come up as soon as possible. So once I finished down there, I went straight from there to Atlanta.
What This Means For The DCU
When James Gunn and Peter Safran were chosen to take creative control of the DCU, fans had many reasons to be excited. In Gunn’s case, as the mind behind the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and The Suicide Squad, he’d proven that he could tell superhero stories people love. There was another reason Gunn’s new role at the time was exciting as well.
As a movie director, there is something about Gunn that makes his actors very loyal to him. Dave Bautista even threatened to quit Guardians of the Galaxy 3 when Gunn was fired from that project. Rooker’s comments about how his Peacemaker role happened shows why that quality in Gunn is important.
As Rooker’s quote shows, the actor was willing to show up for Gunn as soon as he was asked to. Keeping in mind that Rooker is a widely respected actor, that speaks volumes about the caliber of performers who want to work with Gunn. Fans should therefore be happy to know that Gunn will be able to attract top-notch acting talent to the DCU and Peacemaker.
Our Take On Michael Rooker’s Peacemaker Season 2 Role
Since Michael Rooker starred in James Gunn’s movie directorial debut, Slither, the two artists have been joined at the hip. Most memorably, Rooker portrayed Yondu in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
In a lesser actor and writer-director’s hands, Yondu would have been a throwaway character. However, Rooker and Gunn collaborated to make Yondu an extremely affecting character who even made millions of people tear up in the end.
While Gunn doesn’t always give Rooker roles with that much depth, he has proven his ability to capitalize on the actor’s talents. That is the obvious reason why Rooker showed up to work with Gunn again pretty much at a moment’s notice. Given that history, I couldn’t be more excited to see Gunn and Rooker’s Peacemaker collaboration.
