South Park season 27, episode 3, “Sickofancy”, has debuted, and it is the season’s most divisive episode yet. Episodes 1 and 2, “Sermon on the Mount” and “Got a Nut”, were largely praised for their critiques of President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.
After delivering what were widely considered to be two of South Park‘s all-time best episodes, episode 3 features the return of Towelie and commentary on Trump’s military takeover of Washington, D.C. The episode also parodies Apple CEO Tim Cook and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Reactions to episode 3 have been more mixed, with some fans believing that it continues the high and uncompromising bar set by the earlier episodes, while others found it to be disappointing. Check out the reactions below:
Colorado Moderate was less impressed by episode 3 than its predecessors, while admitting that they set a high bar, and that the commentary on Trump’s military of Washington, D.C. was humorous.
lordoflolz noted that no one is safe from being targeted in South Park season 27, especially after Randy sells Towelie off to Trump in episode 3.
Daniel Lavertue was more impressed by the episode and praised it for being “wild.”
Macs was bemused by the episode and questioned what the long-running comedy series is even about at this point.
Blooms declares that the episode “was just alright” and “mostly just meh”, with Tegridy Farms being the only part of this installment they found to be particularly interesting.
Lucas Sanders applauded the episode, claiming that “South Park did it again!” while featuring a screenshot of the Zuckerberg and Trump scene.
What This Means For South Park
While the more divisive reaction to episode 3 may feel surprising, it was arguably inevitable for South Park season 27. The level of praise that episodes 1 and 2 received can only last for so long, and opinions will eventually become more mixed, especially as the season goes on.
Part of that can be attributed to the diminishing returns of shock value. Seeing Trump getting into bed with Satan, a miniature Vance standing next to him, and Noem’s face melting off were rightfully shocking when they were released and left a strong impact on viewers across the globe.
By episode 3, though, the shock value is beginning to wear off. Considering this, the season may need to find new ways to capture the attention of audiences as effectively as it did during the first two episodes.
Our Take On South Park Season 27, Episode 3’s Reactions
Based on the more mixed reception to episode 3, it probably won’t become one of South Park‘s most rewatchable episodes. Nevertheless, from commentary on the behavior of tech CEOs to what Trump wants to do with the military in Washington, D.C., the episode still has plenty of merit.
