With MobLand renewed for season 2, there are several routes Paramount+’s crime drama can progress, including inter-family power struggles, infiltrating high society, and an attempted farewell to the London criminal underworld. Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand follows the struggles of the Harrigan crime family, led by Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and Maeve (Helen Mirren) Harrigan. Tom Hardy leads MobLand as Harry Da Souza, the Harrigan clan’s most effective fixer, called upon to keep the syndicate on top amidst a dangerous world.
In MobLand season 1, the Harrigans were almost dragged into conflict with the rival Stevenson crime family, as their heir goes missing after a night out with Harrigan heir Eddie (Anson Boon). While Harry is brought into the situation to help cool tensions between the family, matters soon descend into bloodshed between the two families. Though Harry is able to end the Stevenson threat, MobLand season 1’s ending leaves things in a state of flux for both Da Souza and the Harrigans which can go in several directions.

Harry Leaves The Harrigans Behind
Will He Put His Family First?
While Harry Da Souza may have been able to de-escalate the London criminal underworld from breaking out into a full-on gang war, he did so at the cost of his own personal relationships, Jan (Joanne Froggatt) and Gina (Teddie Allen) were exposed to the dangers that Harry’s lifestyle brings, from placing them within the reach of the ever-inappropriate Conrad, to using them as bait to lure his opponents into a trap. This ultimately culminated in MobLand season 1’s finale, “The Beast in Me”, seeing Jan stab Harry amidst a heated moment.
Mobland producer Jez Butterworth confirmed that Harry’s wound wasn’t fatal, but it shows the lengths that Jan has been pushed, as well as the dire straits they find their family in. With Kevin (Paddy Considine) assuming control of the Harrigan criminal empire and potentially being seen as a more benevolent and peaceful leader, it is possible Harry may take the time to work on his relationship with his family, perhaps even decide to walk away from the criminal enterprises altogether. However, with his place as the Harrigans’ best fixer still unquestioned, it is likely that Harry will be dragged back into the fold.

The Harrigans Are About To Enter The Political Landscape
Bella’s Connections Can Offer Ambitious Opportunities
As Kevin assumes leadership of the Harrigan family’s criminal operations, there are several directions in which he can take his father’s empire, now that he is seemingly behind bars. While Richie has accepted that his relationship with his parents has left him severely damaged, it is possible that he can seek to do better than Conrad and Maeve, as he saw their leadership as the thing that pushed the family’s empire to the brink of collapse. However, even though he may be a more cautious leader, Kevin and his wife Bella (Lara Pulver) may still have ambitious plans.
It is possible the Harrigan family may seek to amass further power within the Government and authorities.
As part of her own personal journey in MobLand season 1, Bella was seen manipulating her family’s affairs for her own goals. While those who knew, such as Harry, disapproved of her actions, her renewed love for Kevin could see her open up about her own efforts as the pair grow close once more. With Bella’s new political connections and leverage, it is possible the Harrigan family may seek to amass further power within the Government and the authorities.

Eddie Will Make A Power Play
The Entitled, Violent Son Has Been Groomed To Lead
Of course, Kevin’s plans aren’t guaranteed to be a success, as there are still several individuals who could pose a threat to his reign. One such individual is Eddie. After inciting the events of the Harrigan and Stevenson gang conflict by killing Tommy Setevenson (Felix Edwards), the son of Bella and the illegitimate child of Conrad, has now been told about his true parentage. Furthermore, he is still under the thrall of his grandmother Maeve, who is revealed to have been grooming him from a young age to be the Harrigans’ perfect heir.

MobLand’s 9 Main Characters, Ranked
MobLand has no shortage of crafty criminals in its version of London, but certain characters in the Paramount+ crime series stand above the rest.
If Kevin represents a brand new start for the Harrigan family, Eddie must represent the sins of their past still lingering. Having learned that he is Conrad’s child and having been groomed by Maeve, it is unlikely that Eddie will be accepting of Kevin assuming power, and could prove himself to be a foil, maybe earning the loyalty of members of the organization who may not approve of his plans. With Eddie’s violent past and him having almost harmed Bella himself, it is clear that there are few lengths he will go to in order to get what he wants.

Maeve Will Betray Conrad
The Former Harrigan Matriarch May Leave Her Husband Behind
If Eddie is primed to be the next heir, many may wonder what that means for Maeve and her incarceration. Maeve sees herself as the most important member of the Harrigan household and someone who should not be removed from her position. While she may have set Eddie up to inherit Conrad’s place, she envisions herself as the queen, adding further disturbing implications to how she groomed Eddie.
It wouldn’t be hard to imagine Maeve discarding her husband.
Maeve may turn on her husband. She has made it no secret that she despises the other illegitimate children that he fathered, such as Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon), to the point of wanting them dead. If Eddie is successfully placed as the new family head, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine Maeve discarding her husband, no longer needing to play the role of loving matriarch to him and feeling free to let out years of resentment towards him.

Seraphina Will Become The Most Sought-After Ally
Seraphina Has Ambitions To Play A Key Role In The Family
Of course, Seraphina cannot be discounted from the conflicts within the Harrigan family. Even after her abduction and near-death experience, she is just as eager to finally assume more power within the Harrigans’ operations. With both Conrad and Maeve in custody, she may seek to convince Kevin to allow her to play a more active role within the organization. When paired with Bella’s political maneuvering, her legitimate businesses can offer new avenues for growth.

Seraphina may have the confidence to assume more power, with her decision to sit in Conrad’s empty office immediately suggesting that she intends to fill the power vacuum herself. Conrad is in no visible danger, but it remains uncertain just what role he could play in MobLand season 2. However, it could be argued that Conrad’s best move would be to simply wait patiently in his cell to see what the Harrigan power vacuum brings, with him either pivoting towards whoever comes out on top, or positioning himself for a return to his ways once the syndicate sees the chaos it brings. Conrad may linger in the shadows throughout MobLand season 2, waiting for the moment to strike and reclaim his throne.
