Gen V Season 2 To Avoid Star Wars Crossover Approach With The Boys

Gen V season 2 is close to debuting, but its crossovers with The Boys will avoid a Star Wars approach. The college-set spinoff of The Boys is just weeks away from returning, picking up after the Gen V season 1 finale that concluded with two of the main characters embracing the dark side.

The finale also featured Homelander (Antony Starr) flying in and helping the sinister Vought corporation quell a chaotic scene. Gen V season 2 is expected to include some cameos and guest appearances from The Boys actors. But, according to executive producer Eric Kripke, the main show won’t take over the spinoff.

Gen V season 2 premieres September 17 on Prime Video and, in previewing the upcoming episodes for Entertainment Weekly, Kripke downplays the possibility of a showdown between Homelander and Gen V protagonist Marie Moreau (played by Jaz Sinclair). In the quote below, Kripke explains that he wants to avoid going in the same direction that The Book of Boba Fett, a Star Wars show on Disney+, took:

“I’m very sensitive to the fact that Gen V should be primarily about the characters from Gen V and The Boys should be primarily about the characters from The Boys. While there can be crossovers and assists and help, it’s a little bit of a rug pull and not a great way when you’ve committed to watching, say, Boba Fett, and then for two episodes of Boba Fett, it’s just the Mandalorian. I don’t wanna do that. We have stories to tell in each one.”

What This Means For Gen V Season 2

The spinoff will likely have to address The Boys season 4 ending. In a game-changing twist, the likes of Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and Hughie (Jack Quaid) are more defeated than ever before. Their friends have been captured, and it’s partly thanks to the extraordinary abilities of Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips) and Sam Riordan (Asa Germann).

Those are the two characters that went bad in Gen V, providing the connective tissue between the two dramas. But based on Kripke’s comments, it’s the latest confirmation that the spinoff will remain about the superpowered young adults that viewers met in the first installment. That is good news since Gen V has a lot to address.

The upcoming episodes will have to pay tribute to Chance Perdomo, as the character of Andre will be written off after the actor’s tragic death in a motorcycle accident in March 2024. The spinoff will welcome new characters, including, most notably, Hamish Linklater as the new Head of Godolkin University. It has a good reason to avoid the Star Wars comparison that left many viewers unsatisfied.

Bobba Fett was viewed by many as an unofficial new season of The Mandalorian, which was always a divisive decision. Even though it’s unclear what the future holds for Gen V after the final season of The Boys, it’s clear that the spinoff hopes to remain its own distinct story about a separate group of heroes and villains.
