Game Of Thrones Star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s New Series King & Conqueror Rises On Global Streaming Charts

Every major Game of Thrones actor worked their way through a major arc, especially if their character stuck around for all eight seasons, but Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister is an especially interesting role to track. The performance, which earned him two Emmy nominations, arguably features the inciting incident when he gives a child a potentially deadly push of a window.

When they meet again, in the show’s final episodes, Jaime and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) share an uneasy scene. Jaime apologizes and says that he’s a changed man. Coster-Waldau has maintained the tendency to play complicated characters since the GoT ending, moving from the literary adaptations opposite Jennifer Garner to action thrillers. His latest project may echo Westeros the most, though.

Waldau co-stars in King & Conqueror, which recently debuted. The story focuses on Harold, the Earl of Wessex, while Coster-Waldau portrays William, the Duke of Normandy. The two men are destined to clash at the Battle of Hastings, with the eight-episode series examining the story of the people and events that helped shape history.

King & Conqueror is available on Prime Video in the U.S.

Although the historical epic debuted on BBC One and its adjacent streaming service in the United Kingdom, it is available on HBO Max in many international countries and territories. According to FlixPatrol, which tracks streaming performance, King & Conqueror is in the Top 2 as of August 28 in 13 countries. That includes having the #1 ranking in Singapore and Denmark, and Norway.

Along with Norton, known for his performances in Happy Valley and Grantchester, the cast includes Emily Beecham (Into the Badlands) as Edith and Clémence Poésy (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon) as Matilda. It’s created and executive produced by Michael Robert Johnson and executive produced by Norton and Kitty Kaletsky for Rabbit Track Pictures.

King & Conqueror, like the Games of Thrones cast, features several different players. Some of the names include Jean-Marc Barr as King Henry, Elliott Cowan as Sweyn, Bjarne Henriksen as Earl Siward, Oliver Masucci as Baldwin, Indy Lewis as Margaret, Jason Forbes as Thane Thomas, among several others.

While it may not be a perfect Games of Thrones echo, it has the intensity and high stakes to fill a void. The familiar face should help King & Conqueror, which is finding early streaming success for historical drama fans.
