Two years after the cancelation of How I Met Your Father, Hilary Duff will be reuniting with Hulu for a new show. Duff is previously known for her show How I Met Your Father, a spinoff of the hit show How I Met Your Mother. She is also known for starring in Younger as well as the beloved Disney Channel show Lizzie McGuire and the movie A Cinderella Story.
Hulu canceled How I Met Your Father after two seasons, even though season 2 received a 20-episode order after season 1 only had 10. Many How I Met Your Father questions were left unanswered, including the identity of the father, as the spinoff was cut short.
According to Deadline, Duff will be returning to Hulu to star and produce a new show, Pretty Ugly, based off of Kirker Butler’s book of the same name. The show will be written by Butler, and Silver Tree will be directing it, with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment helping to develop the project. Duff will also be an executive producer.
The story follows Miranda Miller, who is set on making her daughter, Bailey, the most successful pageant queen there is. Miranda is also seven months pregnant, a former pageant queen herself, and is focused on the pageant world, already mapping out her unborn child’s future. Her daughter Bailey, on the other hand, is already burned out.
What This Means For Pretty Ugly
This is the first announcement for Pretty Ugly, and there will definitely be more to come. To have Duff be attached to the show from the start will ensure that the show will have an audience, as she has a large fan base. The rest of the cast is very important to the success of the show, and with Duff announced, the rest of the cast is sure to be announced soon.
Pretty Ugly is Butler and Kaplan’s most recent collaboration. Butler previously worked on The Neighbors, Life In Pieces, HouseBroken, and Delilah, which were all Kapital’s series. To have the author of the book attached to write the show is always a plus, and they will ensure that the book’s fans will be happy with how the show will turn out.

It is very exciting to hear that Duff will be in another Hulu television show. She has not played a character similar to Miranda before, as Hilary Duff’s characters tend to be sweet individuals. She will be able to show that she can play a complicated character different from her previous characters.
The plot of Pretty Ugly itself is fascinating, and will make for compelling television as it brings the cutthroat pageant world to the small screen. To have a show following the life of a pageant mom that is constantly focused on her daughter who does not even want to be in a pageant is going to be intriguing, and will more than likely captivate a huge audience.
