The new Demon Slayer movie is easily the most highly anticipated anime movie of all time. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is the highest-grossing animated Japanese film of all time, and somehow, the Infinity Castle movie looks to break that record even further.
The Infinity Castle movie, set to come out in America on September 12, will be the first of a trilogy of films closing out the franchise. The final three films of the series look to animate arguably the most exciting and heartbreaking arcs of the hit manga, namely the Infinity Castle and Sunrise Countdown arcs.
There’s a lot going on in each of the films, and the first will be bringing some of the most important fights of the franchise to screens around the world. After Muzan summoned the Infinity Castle, it was hard to keep track of each character in it, but it isn’t impossible.
Nezuko and Sakonji
Nezuko Is on Her Own Journey
Even though Nezuko hasn’t played a major role like her brother Tanjiro, she’s one of the most important characters in the franchise. She’s the only Demon who was able to conquer the sun, surviving sunlight in her Demon form and moving one step closer to regaining her humanity.
She won’t be on the front lines in the Infinity Castle, but that doesn’t mean that her story is over. She’ll be looking to finally beat her Demon transformation and become a human once again. The former Water Hashira, Sakonji, will also play a role as her protector, making sure that nothing happens to her while Tanjiro is fighting Akaza.
Tengen Uzui and Shinjuro Rengoku
Two Former Hashira Stand Agasint the Demons
Tengen Uzui is one of the coolest characters in anime. He’s the former Sound Hashira and someone who has fought in one of the greatest anime fights of all time. He lost a lot during his fight against Gyutaro, including his eye and arm, forcing him to retire from his role as a Hashira.
While he can’t fight alongside the rest of his fellow Demon Slayers, Tengen Uzui isn’t one to sit out completely. He’ll be with the remainder of the Ubuyashiki family as a guard, making sure no Demons make their way to the hidden compound.
He won’t be alone, as the former Sound Hashira will be joined by the former Flame Hashira, Shinjuro Rengoku. Shinjuro was inspiried by his son’s bravery when facing Akaza, and he’s looking to redeem himself for his shameful actions in the past.
Muzan, Tamayo, and Yushiro
Two Demons Oppose the Demon King
There is no Demon Slayer without the creator of Demons, Muzan Kibutsuji. His final fight against the Stone Hashira, the strongest Hashira in Demon Slayer, showed a fraction of his true strength. He’s an unbelievably powerful character, and he (unsurprisingly) plays a major role in the final few arcs of the story.
Muzan isn’t the only one to create Demons, however. Tamayo made Yushiro a Demon before he succomed to a fatal illness, and the pair will stand against the Demon King once and for all. They’re two of the smartest allies the Demon Slayers have when it comes to taking Muzan down, and their knowledge will be put to the test in the first part of the trilogy.
Kiriya, Kuina, and Kanata
The Ubuyashiki Family Lives On
The ending to the fourth season of Demon Slayer couldn’t have been more exciting. It’s one of the most hype anime moments of the past decade, and it was all because of Ufotable’s top-tier animation and Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s absurdly metal sacrifice.
Muzan Kibutsuji found himself in a trap when the head of the Ubuyashiki family sacrificed himself, his wife, and some of his children in a massive explosion. While Muzan survived, Kagaya and most of his family did not. Luckily, Kagaya was smart enough to send some of his children away so that they could live to fight another day.
The first film of the Infinity Castle trilogy will introduce Kiriya, Kuina, and Kanata, the final three members of the Ubuyashiki family. The Ubuyashikis have been leading the Demon Slayers for generations, and Kiriya will have to take over where his father left off if the Demon Slayers are to finally accomplish their mission and kill Muzan once and for all.
Doma, Shinobu, and Kanao
The Upper Rank Two Is Fully Introduced
Doma is one of the most mysterious characters in Demon Slayer. He serves as Upper Rank Two in Muzan’s forces, standing proudly as the second-strongest Demon underneath the Demon King. He always has a smile on his face, and when Akaza knocked his head off, he just laughed and regenerated a new one.
Doma’s enigmatic past will be, at least partially, revealed in the first part of the trilogy. As the Upper Rank Two, he plays an important role in the final few arcs. He’s set to face some of the strongest Demon Slayers currently in existence, and the first film will pit him against both Shinobu and Kanao.
Shinobu and Kanao are two criminally underrated characters in the series. While most people haven’t recognized their strength yet, the Infinity Castle movie will show just how strong these two characters are. Their fight against Doma will require all of their strength, and even then, they might not make it out alive.
Zenitsu and Kaigaku
Zenitsu Has a Score to Settle
Zenitsu is easily the funniest character in Demon Slayer. He’s a character who is rightfully scared by all the brutality he’s surrounded by, but somehow, he always manages to make it out alive. Even though he’s an incredibly timid character, he’s also one of the strongest characters in Demon Slayer.
Zenitsu may only know one technique within Thunder Breathing, but he’s made it his own. His technique is so incredible that he was able to take out several key enemies throughout the series with a single slash of his blade. In the Infinity Castle, Zenitsu will be up against his greatest opponent yet.
Kaigaku isn’t just any enemy: he was once Zenitsu’s senior. He’s one of the few characters who also studied under Zenitsu’s master, Jigoro Kuwajima. Jigoro was a cultivator of Thunder Breathing, making it as strong as it is today.
Zenitu’s entrance into the Infinity Castle was uncharacteristic of the young Demon Slayer. He’s usually scared beyond understanding, but for some reason, he looked cold and calculated. Zenitsu almost looked like he wanted to be dropped into the enemy’s territory, and the first movie of the final trilogy will explain why.
Tanjiro, Giyu, and Akaza
The First Film Is Centered on These Three
There’s a reason the first film of the Infinity Castle trilogy is titled Akaza Returns. Akaza is one of the strongest Demons in the series, serving as the Upper Rank Three. Canonically, there are only three characters stronger than him: the Upper Rank Two, Doma, the Upper Rank One, Kokushibo, and the creator of all Demons, Muzan Kibutsuji.
Tanjiro hasn’t stopped thinking about Akaza and his underhanded assassination of the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku. In the Infinity Castle, the young Demon Slayer will finally have his chance at revenge when the pair meet yet again.
Thankfully, Tanjiro won’t be alone when facing this beast of a villain. The Water Hashira and one of Tanjiro’s mentors, Giyu Tomioka, will be joining him. The first film will animate the entirety of their encounter, bringing one of the best fights in Demon Slayer to screens across the globe.
Tanjiro’s fight against Akaza will be thrilling, fulfilling, and heartbreaking at the same time. It’s a fight that will push both the Demon and the Demon Slayers beyond their limits, revealing key information about their backstories to one another and uncovering lore that the series hasn’t yet touched.
