The Pokémon Trading Card Game has announced its next expansion: Mega Evolution – Phantasmal Flames. Due out in just a few short months, Phantasmal Flames will bring a new set of Mega Evolutions to the TCG, with a wide selection of powerful Pokémon worthy of adding to any collection.

The Pokémon Company has revealed the first details of Mega Evolution – Phantasmal Flames ahead of its release later this year. Here’s everything we know about when it comes out, what’s included, and how to buy it, including the various bundles and sets it’s available in.

Mega Evolution – Phantasmal Flames will be released beginning on November 14, 2025, although the specific date it’ll be available may vary somewhat by retailer. It follows right after the base Mega Evolution set, which will be released on October 10.

Although preorders aren’t officially available through the Pokémon Center, they’re expected to go live on Thursday. Keep an eye on the official website for new product drops – we’ll go over likely products below.

You may also be able to preorder Phantasmal Flames through third-party online retailers. However, the storefronts that ordinarily host Pokémon preorders (such as Best Buy, TCG Player, Walmart, or Amazon) have yet to publish listings for this set. However, you can likely expect them to go live within the next day or so.

What’s Included

Only a handful of cards have thus far been revealed for Phantasmal Flames, although the set includes over 120. As the name implies, this set focuses on Mega Evolutions, with multiple Mega Evolution Pokémon to add to your collection. It blends cards from Japan’s Inferno X set, Mega Gengar deck, and Mega Diancie deck.

Phantasmal Flames will include six Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, four Pokémon ex; 13 illustration rares;17 ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, Trainer, and Energy cards; and five special illustration rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Supporters.

Also as its name implies, Phantasmal Flames will have a special focus on Fire- and Darkness-type Pokémon. Although it won’t be limited to those two types, there’ll certainly be an abundance of them in the set, and most of the Mega Evolution Pokémon included within will be either Fire or Darkness Pokémon.

The set is, of course, headlined by Mega Charizard X ex, who will likely feature in multiple variant cards: special illustrations and the like. With 360 HP, and a special move called Inferno X that allows you to discard fire energy in order to deal 90 damage per discard, it’s a pretty powerful addition to your deck.

We’ll also see a Mega Dragonite ex, a Mega Gengar, and a series of all-new Pokémon ex cards. Many illustrations in the Phantasmal Flames set will follow the emerging distinctive art style reserved for ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex – examples can be seen above.

How To Buy

The Elite Trainer Box for Phantasmal Flames.

Although specific products have yet to be revealed for Phantasmal Flames, we can likely expect the usual suspects.

We do know there’ll be an Elite Trainer Box, likely running you $60 as per usual. It should contain 12 booster packs, each containing 10 cards and a basic Energy or VSTAR marker, also including a foil promo card of some sort, sleeves, damage counter dice, condition markers, a metal coin, a deck box, and additional Energy cards. This is, of course, one of the most complete bundles in the set, but also one of the most sought-after.

You’ll likely be able to buy booster packs individually, as well as booster boxes containing 30 packs each. Those will probably go for $100 or so. Build and Battle kits will probably be available during the prerelease period.

You’ll also be able to purchase a Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection in November. Likely to contain 18 booster packs, along with multiple promo cards and an assortment of other goodies, this will come at a premium price – although exactly how much is yet to be revealed.

Again, preorders through the Pokémon Center are likely to start as early as Thursday, if you’re lucky enough to get in. You may have better luck with a third-party retailer like Best Buy or Amazon, or checking with your local game store.

Certain independent retailers will also be holding prerelease tournaments for Phantasmal Flames prior to its November 14 launch. Check the official Pokémon Event Locator for more details on when your local game store might be holding events – although since the set was just announced, it may be a while before they reveal dates and times.

For now, that’s everything we know about Mega Evolution – Phantasmal Flames. Keep an eye on the Pokémon Center, your local game store, and anywhere else Pokémon Trading Card Game products are sold for more details throughout the week.
