The Sims 4 has confirmed yet another expansion, and this one’s called Adventure Awaits. Since the announcement of the cancellation of The Sims 5, Maxis has focused on developing as much expansion content for The Sims 4 as possible. After the release of Enchanted by Nature earlier this summer, The Sims is following up with a very similar, yet very different kind of expansion.
A new trailer for Adventure Awaits was released via YouTube today, and reveals the earliest details of what to expect in The Sims 4‘s new expansion. Here’s everything we currently know about Adventure Awaits, although more information is likely to come at a later date.
Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Release Date
When & Where To Buy
Adventure Awaits is set for release on October 2, 2025. Preorders have already begun through EA, so if you’re interested in picking up a copy early, you can do so as early as today.
The Adventure Awaits DLC for The Sims 4 will cost $39.99 across all platforms. What’s included, though, depends on exactly when you purchase it.
Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Preorder Bonuses
Buy By November 13
Adventure Awaits doesn’t exactly have a preorder bonus, but there are some special goodies you can get for purchasing it by a specific date. If you buy Adventure Awaits by November 13 – technically after its release date – it’ll come with these three additional items:
- Toasty Tower Lamp
- Toast-Tea Kettle
- Toasty Tootsies Socks
Obviously, they’re going for a cozy theme here, and the benefits are varied: for ordering Adventure Awaits before November 13, you’ll get two pieces of decor and a wearable pair of casual, around-the-house footwear for your Sims.
Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Gameplay Details
What To Expect
As you probably guessed from the name, Adventure Awaits is themed around the great outdoors, allowing your Sims to go on vacations called Getaways. These new events can last a day or a whole summer, and will allow you to set custom rules that determine how they unfold. You might organize a sleepaway camp, a fitness retreat, a romantic reality show, or anything else you please.
Another new type of player creation, called Custom Venues, will be available for uploading to and downloading from the Gallery. In other words, you can share your Getaways with other players, or add other player creations to your game to expand your options.
In addition, options for child Sims have been greatly expanded. Kids can now experience Childhood Sentiments – especially strong feelings for friends they grow up with, which will last throughout the rest of their lives. You can build your own Modular Playgrounds to keep them busy, or play games like hide and seek.
Child Sims also now have access to Imaginary Friends, a set of four different dolls that come to life when the grown-ups aren’t looking. You can choose from four different personalities for your Imaginary Friends: Goofball, Competitive, Creative, and Evil. Depending on the personality you choose, they may become a bad influence on your children.
Sims of all ages, meanwhile, will have at least one new trait – Competitive – and a whole host of new skills. Those skills include Papercraft, Entymology, Diving, and Archery. To develop these skills, you’ll be able to add things like diving boards, waterslides, kayaks, archery targets, spin bikes, and free weights to your in-game homes.
Finally, Adventure Awaits will include not one, not two, but three new neighborhoods in the outdoorsy Gibbi Point for your Sims to move into. They’ll feature various unique locales for you to visit, including a bioluminescent lagoon and a majestic geyser. If you’re into birdwatching, you may find the elusive Plumbird perched in a nearby tree.
The first of three new neighborhoods, Wanderwood Wilds, sounds like it’ll be the perfect place for a secluded log cabin surrounded by trees. Jellyfish Junction is a charming seaside hamlet where you can stroll the boardwalk or ride the waves. And Crystal Valley is probably located alongside an extensive cave network, full of all manner of rare gems and minerals.
Each neighborhood also comes pre-programmed with its very own Getaway: you can choose from Camp Gibbi Gibbi, Revive & Thrive, or the very subtly named Love Highland. Of, of course, you can plan your own getaway with the new venues and rules available to you.
It’s been a while since we got such an expansive update to Sims gameplay; the new Custom Venues and Getaways sound like they’ll add quite a bit to the experience, by allowing you to curate one-of-a-kind experiences for your Sims and their friends.
Although some players were disappointed by the lack of certain gameplay aspects in Enchanted by Nature, Adventure Awaits has the rare chance to make up for it. Either way, we’ll find out soon enough, when the new expansion for The Sims 4 is released on October 2.
