Jessica Biel has a forgotten lead role in the first season of The Sinner, and it’s worth checking out. Since being one of the most recognizable movie stars in the early 2000s, Jessica Biel has stepped away from the limelight for the most part, popping up here and there for the odd role every few years.
Her move into producing in the middle of the 2010s, as well as her marriage to Justin Timberlake in 2012 and the subsequent birth of her two children, meant that she did not always have the availability to appear in front of the camera. Still, whenever she did have a role, it was usually in something worth watching.
The Sinner Has A Stacked Cast
Jessica Biel stars in season 1 of The Sinner as Cora Tannetti, a woman with a tragic life who stabs a man to death at the beginning of the series. The Sinner is an anthology TV show, so Cora only appeared in the first season of the series. Only the show’s lead, Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman), stays season to season.
The Sinner has a pretty impressive cast, perhaps drawing some bigger names with the promise that they won’t have to be committed to filming for more than a season. Jessica Hecht stars in seasons 3 and 4 as Sonya Barzel, one of the few characters to appear in multiple seasons.
Other actors, most of whom only appear for a single season, include Christopher Abbott and Abby Miller in season 1; Carrie Coon, Tracy Letts, Hannah Gross, and Ellen Adair in season 2; Matt Bomer and Chris Messina in season 3; and Frances Fisher, Michael Mosley, and Cindy Cheung in season 4.
The Sinner Is The Perfect Watch For Crime Drama Fans
The Sinner is a great, underrated detective show that probably flew under most people’s radars. It’s currently available to stream on Netflix, and each season is a solid story unto itself. It’s a mix of an anthology and a serial, as Harry’s personal life also takes up a significant amount of the show.
Jessica Biel’s season in particular is excellent, with a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes​​​​​. It’s a very unpredictable season of television, which is a hard feat to accomplish in these days of TV-savvy viewers who can smell a twist episodes off. The Sinner also wastes no time hooking viewers into the story.
The other seasons of The Sinner are just as good. It’s an atmospheric and grim show led by Bill Pullman doing some of his best work. It’s a very intense series; that title is no joke. Those who appear in the show are guilty of something or another, the thrills coming in finding out what will become of them.
