Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 10.The finale of Dexter: Resurrection season 1 quietly set the stage for the first person Dexter is going to kill in season 2. While Dexter: Resurrection season 2 hasn’t officially been confirmed yet, it looks very promising. The end of Resurrection season 1 left multiple story threads loose, and the show is so successful that a renewal is a no-brainer for Paramount.
In an unprecedented move for the Dexter shows, Resurrection actually set up two different people for Dexter to kill in the next season. One is the elusive New York Ripper, who was finally identified, but one is a familiar face. That person will also likely be Dexter’s first kill in Resurrection season 2, as the Ripper seems to be more of a main villain.
Dexter Stealing Al’s File Means He’ll Be Next On His Kill List For Season 2
At the end of Dexter: Resurrection episode 10, Dexter stole the files Leon Prater had on various serial killers scattered around the country. One of those files was the file fr Al Walker, also known as Rapunzel, who was one of Resurrection‘s new serial killers at Prater’s parties. Because of that, it looks like Dexter is going to kill Rapunzel first in Resurrection season 2.
Al is something of a loose end for Dexter. He’s the only surviving killer that attended Prater’s parties this season, as he left New York and headed back home before Dexter could kill him. Dexter didn’t know where Al lived before, but now that he has Prater’s files, he almost certainly has Al’s home address and can kill him there.
The other files Dexter took from Leon Prater have information about several different serial killers named “Jawsplitter,” “Midnight Mangler,” and “Yonkers Slayer” in addition to Al Walker.
Dexter also has a vested interest in killing Al that makes him the most likely person to be Dexter’s first victim of the new season. Al showed a video of himself killing an innocent woman to Prater’s group, giggling all the while, which horrified and disgusted Dexter. Dexter wanted to get justice on all the killers, but the sheer joy Al had while killing should make him the prime target of Resurrection season 2.
Al’s Escape Is A Major Franchise First For Dexter
Dexter winding up with Al’s file at the end of Resurrection season 1 also highlights how unique Rapunzel’s situation is. Al Walker is the first person to actually evade Dexter, at least through a season finale. A few people have survived Dexter targeting them, like Little Chino in Dexter season 2 and Hannah McKay in season 7, but Dexter either got them later or let them go willingly.
That’s not the case for Al. Dexter will probably kill him in Resurrection season 2, but for the time being, he’s the only person who has ever successfully evaded Dexter for more than a matter of days. Dexter didn’t let him go, and he hasn’t caught him yet, which separates Al from people like Little Chino and Hannah. Dexter even tracked Lila West to Paris just to kill her.
What makes Al even more special is that he’s lasting multiple seasons. Dexter has never seen any killer survive long enough to appear in two seasons. The New York Ripper will likely be in Resurrection season 2, but Al is the first active serial killer to ever survive a Dexter season finale. The wait for Dexter: Resurrection season 2 won’t be enough to keep Al alive, though.
