OG Addams Family Actor’s New Wednesday Season 2 Character Gives The Show A Plot Hole To Quickly Resolve

The upcoming second season of Wednesday will introduce a new character who will potentially help resolve a plot hole from the first season. Based on the successful sitcom The Addams Family, Wednesday follows the titular Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), who is enrolled at Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for misfits. During her stay, Wednesday unearths her psychic powers inherited from her mother. She also works to solve a series of murders and a 25-year-old mystery surrounding her family, with the help of her werewolf roommate, Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers), and Thing, a disembodied hand, sent by her parents.

Wednesday season 1 was a great critical and ratings success for Netflix, due to its supernatural elements, captivating plot, and Jenna Ortega’s enthralling performance. While Wednesday changed various aspects of The Addams Family sitcom, the Netflix series has been widely praised for keeping the balance between humor, supernatural, and drama that made the original show successful. Early images released from Wednesday season 2 already indicate big changes ahead for Wednesday as she returns to Nevermore Academy, and one casting choice could answer one of season 1’s plot holes.

If Professor Orloff Is Nevermore’s Longest-Serving Teacher, Why Wasn’t He In Wednesday Season 1?

Christopher Lloyd Will Play Professor Orloff In Wednesday Season 2

Among the new cast members of Wednesday season 2 is legendary Hollywood actor, Christopher Lloyd, who will play the role of Professor Orloff, one of the mysterious teachers at Nevermore Academy. Professor Orloff is described as “a stern disciplinarian” who is “always on the lookout for troublemakers” (via Netflix). It has been confirmed that Professor Orloff will cross paths with Wednesday’s younger brother, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), who will explore his new powers upon his arrival at the school. While nothing is certain, it has also been theorized that Professor Orloff could be the villain of Wednesday season 2.

Lloyd’s casting as Professor Orloff in Wednesday marks his third appearance in the Addams Family franchise. In 1991, Lloyd joined the cast of The Addams Family as Uncle Fester, Wednesday and Pugsley’s paternal uncle, who possesses the ability to generate electricity. In the movie, it was revealed that he had been lost in the Bermuda Triangle for 25 years, and he finally returned to the family after recovering from amnesia. The movie’s critical success led to the release of Addams Family Values in 1993, where Lloyd reprised his role of Uncle Fester.

Wednesday Season 2 May Have Just Solved One Of The Biggest Nevermore Outcast Mysteries After 3 Years

A new detail about the different Outcast species at Nevermore Academy in Wednesday season 2 might have solved a mystery left over from season 1.

While Lloyd’s performance as Orloff in Wednesday season 2 is highly anticipated, Netflix’s description of the character prompts questions as to why he wasn’t introduced in the first season. Netflix describes Professor Orloff as “Nevermore’s longest-serving teacher,” yet the only notable appearance in Wednesday season 1 is botany teacher Marilyn Thornhill, played by Christina Ricci, the original Wednesday Addams. While Lloyd’s Professor Orloff is a welcome addition to Wednesday season 2, his character description still raises the question as to why he wasn’t introduced to viewers earlier.

Wednesday Season 2 Is Expanding On Nevermore’s Staff Much More Than In Season 1

New Staff Members Will Be Introduced Throughout Wednesday Season 2

Cast of Wednesday Season 2

In Wednesday season 1, Wednesday is introduced to different members of Nevermore’s staff, including Christina Ricci’s Marilyn Thornhill, Principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christine), and the fencing coach, Coach Vlad (Cezar Grumăzescu). While these faculty members have critical moments during Wednesday’s time at Nevermore, the first season mainly focuses on her developing relationships with Enid, Bianca (Joy Sunday), and the other Outcasts at the boarding school. The arrival of new cast members now shows that the Netflix series is planning to greatly expand on Nevermore’s staff.

Following her death in season 1, it was announced that Wednesday‘s Principal Weems would be replaced by a new character, Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi), who has the power of pyrokinesis. Alongside the impending introduction of Professor Orloff, it’s also been confirmed there will be a new werewolf teacher at the school, Isadora Capri (Billie Piper), and Morticia Addams, whose complicated relationship with Principal Weems was explored in season 1, will be helping the staff as her children prepare to return to school. These characters that will be introduced in Wednesday season 2 foreshadow big changes on the horizon for the Netflix series.
