The Mask Maker in Hollow Knight: Silksong is located in the Mount Fay region, which you can explore fully if you have the map to the area. To obtain the Mount Fay map, you can purchase it from Shakra once you discover the NPC in Mount Fay for the first time.
Maps are great early game purchases in Silksong, but Shakra is a little tricky to find in Mount Fay. To find this NPC, go west from the fast travel point in The Slab, then use the Clawline skill to go across looped chains and further west, where Shakra can be heard singing.
Once you have the Mount Fay map, look for a room that has a jetstream leading far up into the area’s upper regions. By going up through this airflow, you can head west from the first platform you see to your right as you climb upward. In the next room, you can keep going west until you spot a huge drop.
At this location, follow these steps to reach the Mask Maker’s location:
- Drop down and float to the southwest until you reach a walkable area.
- Go west past some ruins until you see a room full of spikes on the ground.
- Using the Double Jump and Harpoon skills, use the bug enemies to jump up.
- Reach the top of the room, then continue climbing upward.
- In the next space, keep using the Double Jump and bug enemies to climb higher.
- At the northwest peak of this area, you can “Enter” a space where the Mask Maker is.
The Double Jump is an ability you learn while exploring Mount Fay, so it stands to reason that this is the key skill you need to reach the Mask Maker. You’ll have to hang off walls and make precise movements to reach the hidden NPC’s home, so it may take multiple attempts to reach your destination.

While not the same Mask Maker from the original Hollow Knight, the version of the NPC you meet in Silksong is still an interesting character to discover. Unique dialogue is your only reward from finding the Mask Maker, but the words you share give crucial insight to the setting you wouldn’t get elsewhere.
The Mask Maker, as their name suggests, carves the masks that bugs wear around the Hallownest, providing an overlooked necessity to the world. If you use Hornet’s Charge Attack on the Mask Maker, you can even knock off their mask, revealing a true face underneath.
