Now that Borderlands 4 is finally releasing, players are going to be doing everything they can to get their hands on the best rare loot and gear they can find. A returning feature of the franchise are one-time-use codes called SHiFT Codes that can be redeemed for valuable keys.

SHiFT Codes are a staple of the Borderlands franchise, which has been reinvigorated thanks to Borderlands 4‘s return to form, and players will be on the lookout for these codes as they are released intermittently by Gearbox.

How SHiFT Codes Work In Borderlands 4

Redeem SHiFT Codes In-Game Or On The Gearbox Website

SHiFT Codes are unique, one-time use codes that require a SHiFT account and can be redeemed on the Gearbox website or the Borderlands 4 in-game menu. These codes are typically announced via Gearbox’s various social media platforms, including Gearbox’s official X, CEO Randy Pitchford’s X account, or Gearbox’s official Facebook page.

Often, these codes have a limited availability and will expire after a specific date, so players will need to act fast to redeem them. Once you have a code, you can use it to gain Golden Keys, which are used to unlock extremely-rare loot via the locked Golden Chests in Belton’s Bore, The Launchpad, Carcadia, and The Lockaway.

Unlocking these Golden Chests gives players a range of valuable loot to use in setting up their best Vault Hunter build, with Legendary weapons being a high possibility each time. Legendaries are not guaranteed, but are much more likely in Golden Chests than any other chest in the game.

SHiFT Codes also have the potential of unlocking other unique rewards aside from Golden Keys, such as the unique ECHO-4 skin, but they are primarily used for Golden Keys to give players something exciting to look forward to in terms of unique rare loot.

Currently, because Borderlands 4 just released, there are not very many SHiFT Codes available just yet. However, there are two that you can use right away to unlock Golden Keys for use at the aforementioned rare chest locations. There will surely be more codes released over the coming days and weeks, especially during the initial launch of the game.
