Marvel’s upcoming Deadpool and Batman crossover has sent the internet abuzz with excitement, especially now that it’s been revealed the event will include backup features showcasing team-ups between heroes like Green Arrow and Daredevil, and perhaps even more notably, Wonder Woman and Captain America. Some fans have even stirred controversy by theorizing that the latter pairing could lead to a romance.
Given that Diana Prince is recently single, after losing both the father of her child and long-time love interest Steve Trevor, fans have theorized that DC and Marvel may be setting up a short-lived romance between Wonder Woman and Captain America.
This theory has surfaced with varying degrees of seriousness, with some joking that DC and Marvel are giving Diana a “new” Steve. However, many fans believed a romance or at least a kiss could take place between the two heroes in their upcoming team-up. Chip Zdarsky, the writer for the Wonder Woman / Captain America crossover, has now come out and debunked this theory.
Chip Zdarsky Answers: Will Wonder Woman and Captain America Kiss?
WONDER WOMAN / CAPTAIN AMERICA Crossover by Chip Zdarsky, and Illustrated by Terry & Rachel Dodson
On June 24, 2025, Chip Zdarsky took to his Substack blog to share thoughts on his and Terry & Rachel Dodson’s upcoming Wonder Woman / Captain America crossover. While the writer admitted, “I can’t say much about the story (or anything, really),” he teased, “when you see it, you’ll understand that I just decided to go all-in and make it everything I wanted to see in a crossover.”
The fact that Chip is going “all-in” is enough to stir excitement among fans. And while he didn’t reveal any major plot details, he did answer one burning fan question: Will Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman kiss? Chip’s reply was blunt and humorous: “What? No.” (Sorry, Wonder Woman and Captain America shippers).

I’m Begging DC to Bring Back the Best Version of Batman and Wonder Woman’s Friendship
Wonder Woman and Batman are allies, sure, but let’s face it, they could be a lot closer as friends and DC really needs to improve their relationship.
What makes his answer even funnier is the explanation that followed: “Steve doesn’t like to kiss. He likes to look longingly at old photos of women in heart-shaped lockets.” This tongue-in-cheek comment is a playful jab at Steve’s famously reserved demeanor and the fan perception of his old-fashioned ‘prude-ness.’
The quip about “heart-shaped lockets” is also a clever nod to Captain America’s sentimental side, particularly his enduring love for Peggy Carter, often symbolized by the photo he carries of her. So, in short: no, Wonder Woman and Captain America will not be locking lips in this crossover.
Wait… Wonder Woman & Captain America Would Actually Be Great Together
Diana Prince & Steve Trevor May Not Be Lovers, But They Could Be Twin Flames
Most fans probably haven’t seriously considered Wonder Woman and Captain America as a realistic couple, since they come from two entirely different universes. But when imagining the dynamic of their upcoming team-up, it becomes clear that these two heroes actually make a surprisingly strong pairing.
Steve Trevor and Steve Rogers share more than just a name. Both are former service members, devoted love interests, and firm believers in doing what’s right, no matter the cost. They even look somewhat alike. Given these similarities, it’s easy to imagine Diana seeing echoes of her Steve in Captain Rogers.

DC Finally Admits Why a Superman x Wonder Woman Romance Would Never Work
The New 52 tried to push Superman and Wonder Woman together, but now DC Comics admits a relationship between the two heroes just can’t happen.
That doesn’t mean the two would work romantically. In fact, it would be a bit unsettling if Diana, who is still grieving Steve Trevor, suddenly connected with someone so eerily similar. Still, what they do have is the potential for a powerful and lasting friendship grounded in shared values and life experiences.
This shared temperament may result in a much smoother team-up than the one teased for Batman and Deadpool, which promises chaos and comedy. However, based on Chip Zdarsky’s playful tone when discussing the Wonder Woman / Captain America crossover, it seems Diana and Steve might still find themselves wrapped up in some light-hearted shenanigans, proving that even the most serious heroes can have fun.
Chip Zdarsky: Look, I’m a jaded guy. This is my job. I’ve typed the words THWIP and SNIKT hundreds of times like it’s no big deal. But this? This actually makes me a little giddy.
I can’t say much about the story (or anything, really), but when you see it you’ll understand that I just decided to go all-in and make it everything I wanted to see in a crossover.
Captain America and Wonder Woman! What a world.
WILL THEY KISS
What? No.
WHY NOT
Steve doesn’t like to kiss. He likes to look longingly at old photos of women in heart-shaped lockets.
OH. OKAY.
