After a disappointing lack of performance fixes for Monster Hunter Wilds in last night’s Capcom Showcase, fans are giving up hope of ever having the game run smoothly. The latest entry in the long-running Monster Hunter franchise has struggled with optimizing its performance for PC, resulting in many irate fans getting frustrated at Capcom’s focus on adding content rather than fixing the existing issues.
At the June Capcom Showcase livestream, the studio revealed upcoming events, DLCs, and additional content that’s coming to the title soon. This morning, Capcom followed up with patch notes for an upcoming update that will implement more than 100 bug fixes. However, the fixes seem to be too little, too late, and for many PC MHW players, it’s beginning to look like a performance fix was never in the cards.

Monster Hunter Wilds Drops To “Mostly Negative” Reviews On Steam As PC Performance Issues Get Worse
Monster Hunter Wilds’ reviews on Steam have gotten worse after review bombing, as the game’s performance on PC is worse than it was at launch.
For some community members, the lack of response from Capcom is more alarming. There’s been such a loud outcry over the game’s PC issues that it’s hard to believe that Cacom is unaware of it, and that’s a problem. According to Redditor BigBurly46, the company hasn’t fixed the game yet “because they CAN’T fix it.”
“It might be impossible to optimize the game to play better on PCs.”
Some fans speculate that the RE Engine, which works great for the recent Resident Evil titles, simply isn’t meant to handle massive open-world games like Monster Hunter Wilds. If this is the case, then it might be impossible to optimize the game to play better on PCs. At the end of the day, points out user drockalexander, “if they could they would have all hands on deck to fix.“
Monster Hunter Wilds Continues To Struggle With Performance Issues On PC
Steam Review Bombing Continues
Monster Hunter Wilds received generally favorable reviews when it launched earlier this year, with critics praising its open-world design, the upgraded but classic monster hunting mechanics, and the huge amount of post-game content. However, the title has also been plagued with issues on PC from day one. The game’s performance has been called embarrassing and unacceptable by fans around the internet, and the title has dipped into “Overwhelmingly Negative” on Steam in recent reviews.
Players experience stuttering, FPS drops, blurred graphics, and a general overwhelming lack of optimization that reviews state makes the game frustrating to play at best and impossible to even boot up at worst. Capcom continues to make tweaks to Monster Hunter Wilds, but it looks like the game will continue to struggle on PC until a bigger update is made to address the poor performance at its core.
