The Princess Bride has never gotten a sequel, and one of the OG stars just further commented on why this can never be.

In today’s industry of many reboots and legacy sequels, people may think that The Princess Bride would be next. Sometime after we hit the 30-year mark, the cast did a Zoom call, and a couple of actors were like, “We’ve been asked if we’ll do a sequel,” and I was like, “Well, a lot of us are going to be in a wheelchair.” So no, no, that will never happen.
What This Means For The Princess Bride
Based on Wright’s comments, a serious conversation did happen surrounding the possibility of a Princess Bride sequel, and filmmakers wanted to bring back the original cast in order to preserve the sanctity of the classic movie. However, the cast themselves believe the roles are long in their past. Additionally, André the Giant sadly passed away in 1993, and there’s no way they could recast Fezzik.
If the cast isn’t confident in their ability to return as the characters, a continuation of The Princess Bride is never going to get off the ground. The Princess Bride has also stood as a near-perfect standalone for almost four decades now. While some legacy sequels have successfully followed up similarly positioned movies, The Princess Bride is one that seems best left alone.
Our Take On Robin Wright Ruling Out A Princess Bride Sequel
An even more ill-advised venture would be to try to remake The Princess Bride. Various Hollywood stars did the “fan-made” project of Home Movie: The Princess Bride during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was an unofficial reimagining, the purpose of which was mainly about seeing how modern actors would interpret certain scenes and raising money for charity.
But The Princess Bride exists in its own sphere, where the original performances can never be replaced, and the charm and camp are a unique product of the 1980s. If the movie were remade or a sequel produced today, many elements probably wouldn’t be so well-received. As it is, Hollywood really should heed Robin Wright’s comments on never doing a proper follow-up.
