16-Year-Old Emmy-Winning Sitcom Surges Into Disney+ Top 10 Chart

A 16-year-old Emmy-winning sitcom is currently trending on Disney+ global streaming charts even though the series officially concluded five years ago.

Despite being available to stream on multiple streaming services, this particular series has found great success specifically on Disney+. The series won a total of 22 Emmy Awards during its 11-season run, including 5 for Outstanding Comedy Series.

At the time of writing, Modern Family is the #8 most-viewed series on Disney+ according to global charts on FlixPatrol. Few series are able to retain this strong a shelf life following its series finale, especially considering that the final episode aired on ABC back in 2020.

Modern Family is nowhere near the most-viewed series on Disney+ by total viewership, a position that is currently held by Marvel Zombies, followed by Hulu’s Alien: Earth. That said, it’s incredibly rare for any “classic” TV series to retain its trending status globally the way that Modern Family has been able to do on Disney+.

All eleven seasons of Modern Family are also available to stream on Peacock Premium, but the acclaimed comedy series is only accessible outside the U.S. on Disney+. This explains the massive viewership for one of the most popular ABC series of all time, and should also give Disney motivation to further expand the franchise.

Is Disney Ever Going To Make A Modern Family Reunion?

Cast of Modern Family season 1

Based on its continued global popularity, Disney should really start brainstorming on how to capitalize on Modern Family’s rare status as a streaming powerhouse. Considering that most of the shows on Disney+ are part of Disney’s extensive catalog, as opposed to new releases like on Hulu, a Modern Family revival could give Disney+ a flagship original series that could pull in huge streaming viewership.

A Modern Family revival, however, would likely have to feature many, if not all, of the celebrated original cast. That would require a lot of planning and availability on Disney’s end, but all that hard work could end up paying off big time for Disney+. Perhaps if the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle sequel series on Disney+ works out, it will be a further indication that a Modern Family revival series would be another hit.

Some Modern Family fans would likely attest that 11 seasons and 250 episodes are more than enough, and a reunion series would simply be overkill. There’s always a risk involved when extending a beloved TV franchise, especially after it already had a strong series finale. However, sequel series have been a big hit in 2025, with titles like Dexter: Resurrection and Ballard pulling in massive streaming viewership, so Disney may want to follow suit with Modern Family.
