High Potential Season 2 Sets Up The Important Arrival Of Morgan’s Father

Warning! SPOILERS about High Potential season 2, episode 3 ahead.

High Potential season 2, episode 3 foreshadowed the crime drama introducing a massively important character from Morgan’s past in its near future. Having taken care of the Game Maker in High Potential season 2, episode 2, at least temporarily, gave “Eleven Minutes” the chance to go back to the crime drama’s usual flow through the focus on the week’s case.

Everything about the case affected Morgan, partially throwing back to the few particularly heartbreaking High Potential season 1 cases that highlighted how solving the mystery unveiled grim backstories and outcomes for everyone involved. However, Nathan Gould’s murder also hit close to home for Morgan because of what it revealed about the relationship between Nathan and his formerly estranged daughter, Jessica.

Despite Nathan and Jessica’s difficult history, High Potential season 2, episode 3 showed that Nathan tried everything to right his wrongs with her, along with highlighting how their relationship changed to the point that Jessica was extremely negatively affected by the entire ordeal. Morgan asking Jessica how she forgave Nathan suggested that the case made her think about her father.

High Potential season 1’s finale mentioned Morgan’s father for the first time through her poignant story about how his views of how HPI individuals should spend their time negatively influenced Morgan’s social life as a child. Her never having mentioned him before showed how delicate a subject it was, especially considering how open Morgan had been about other past issues.

High Potential season 2, episode 3 centering on a father and daughter duo could have hinted at Roman and Ava’s situation, but too little is known about why Roman left Ava and Morgan to draw that parallel. High Potential season 1 having already established Morgan and her father’s estrangement instead pointed to season 2 foreshadowing the introduction of Morgan’s father.

Why Morgan’s Father Is More Important Than Roman In High Potential

The crime drama unmistakably concentrates on Morgan Gillory and her incredible skills to the point that it can easily be argued that High Potential not focusing on other characters is a major weakness, but not much is known about Morgan’s past. What Morgan shared about her life before her family solely alluded to Roman until High Potential season 1’s finale.

This makes the prospect of Morgan’s father’s introduction to High Potential season 2 incredibly appealing. His appearance can generate conflict, making Morgan’s collaboration with the LAPD or even her relationship with her own children more complicated. Without going as far as that, his introduction can show how Morgan deals with sharing the space with other HPI individuals who aren’t criminals.

High Potential season 2 releases new episodes every Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

High Potential’s biggest horizontal storyline until now has always been Roman’s disappearance and the possibility of that mystery’s resolution. However, that almost exclusively impacts Ava, as the other characters have fewer stakes in his discovery, with this being true even for Morgan, as her heartbreak is in the past, having moved on, even if she couldn’t solve why he disappeared.

The introduction of Morgan’s father can instead be a trove of information about her past and a major disruptive force in her life, forcing a change in High Potential after the lull of Morgan and her family getting used to their new life, made possible by Morgan becoming a consultant for the LAPD.
