While there are several summer deals live at the moment across several platforms, this Nintendo eShop collection that includes Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 3 Portable is one that you won’t want to miss. These incredible JRPGs are among the best in the genre, with the lowest Metacritic score among the three still coming in at an impressive 89.
While this set does include Persona 3 Portable instead of the more recent remake, Persona 3 Reload, the former is still a great edition of the game, especially at the price it is currently on sale for. There is also a Persona 4 remake on the way, Persona 4 Revival, but with no official release date, it’s unlikely to be available anytime soon, making P4G worth the purchase, too.
The Persona Collection Has A Huge eShop Discount
Get Three Of The Best JRPGs On The Market, All For Less Than $50
At the moment, players can get P3P, P4G, and P5R as part of a three-game collection on the Nintendo eShop for 60% off, making them just $35.99. Given that this Nintendo eShop Persona collection is normally $90 and Persona 5 Royal alone is typically $60, this is a phenomenal deal for all three of these games and one that you likely won’t find cheaper anywhere else.

Hands-On: Persona 5: The Phantom X Is An Engrossing Spin-Off That’s Too Cluttered By The Format
The gameplay and story of Persona 5: The Phantom X shown at a press event is terrific, but the gacha format can be distracting from the experience.
Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Portable are on sale individually as well, but Persona 4 Golden is not, so this collection is still the better deal if you don’t have any of them, as purchasing them separately would still be about $50 overall. Additionally, keep in mind that this is a limited-time sale that is scheduled to end on July 10th, 2025, at 2:59 am PDT, so if you’re interested in making the purchase, then you’ll want to do it before the deadline.
At this time, this collection is also on sale on Steam as part of the Steam Summer Sales event. However, the Steam version of this collection is only discounted by 50% from its original price of $95, making it still roughly $10 more expensive than the Nintendo eShop version.
Lastly, if you’re concerned about whether the original Switch can run these games efficiently, I can personally confirm that it can. I played through all of these on the Nintendo Switch when I purchased the collection years ago and encountered no problems with any of the three games. I would even go as far as to say that this is the best way to play them, since you also have the option of enjoying them handheld.
Where To Start With The Persona Collection
Persona 5 Royal May Be The Most Approachable For New Players
Although they are labeled in a numerical order, Persona 3, 4, and 5 do not have to be played in sequential order. They do all share common elements, such as the Personas themselves and the overarching story of a group of students entering the Metaverse, but overall, the characters and stories are individual experiences that can be played in any order. Which is why, in this case, I would recommend starting with Persona 5 Royal.

I Think I Know Why Persona 3 Reload Just Got A Demo A Year After The Game’s Release
Persona 3 Reload now has a new demo over a year after its release. While the timing seems strange, I think I know the reasons behind it.
Given that P5R is the most critically acclaimed in the series, and the highest rated on Metacritic with a critic rating of 95 and a user rating of 8.7, it is the best option for new players. While Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden also have players who believe that they’re the best in the series, they’re not necessarily great starting points. Persona 5 Royal is the newest of the three and thus features refined battle mechanics as well as numerous quality of life updates that can make a world of difference.
If you opt to start with Persona 3 Portable or Persona 4 Golden, you may find the gameplay to be a bit stiff, and it could consequently turn you off from the series altogether. On the other hand, if you start with Persona 5 Royal, then you’ll likely have an easier time getting used to the format of Persona games as a whole, which would then allow you to enjoy the less approachable options of the franchise more than you would initially.

Persona 4 Remake’s Biggest Mistake Isn’t Its Visuals, It’s Much Worse
Persona 4 Revival is getting criticized online after its initial announcement, but its main problem isn’t the visuals; it’s something far worse.
All that is not to say that P3P and P4G are bad games by any means; they’re just a bit dated. However, given that Persona 3 Reload and the upcoming Persona 4 Revival are not available on the eShop at all, and may never be, this is a great way to experience these stories now. Overall, the Persona collection, including Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal, is a can’t-miss deal that any JRPG fan should grab while they can.
