Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Task episode 5!Task star Jamie McShane has explained episode 5’s shocking death, revealing the details behind what happened and the layers of tragedy atop it. During the latest events of HBO’s newest crime drama, Perry, played by McShane, pursues Eryn (Margarita Levieva) through the woods after learning she lied to him about her involvement in Robbie (Tom Pelphrey) stealing from the Dark Hearts.
While she’s running through the woods screaming for help, Perry catches up to her, trying to make sure she doesn’t draw any attention from people nearby. However, despite previously intending to bring her back to her husband, Jayson (Sam Keeley), so he could deal with her, he ends up killing her in their struggle. A moment that shocks even him.
Speaking with Variety, McShane revealed how Perry never meant to kill Eryn in Task episode 5. The actor unpacked what his mentality had been during that moment, having killed her “not fully realizing” that he was. It’s also why he appears so surprised when he kills her. Perry had no intention of killing Eryn. He tells her that he gave her a clean way out of her situation, and now they have to handle it differently. When he tells her to go, he’s telling her that he’s taking her back to confess to Jayson, who will find his own way to deal with her. When she runs away, he’s trying to get her until he realizes that those kids are up [on the cliff] partying and playing, and Eryn is just screaming bloody murder. He tries to get her to be quiet while he’s looking up at the kids, and he’s just not fully realizing what he’s doing. When it hits him, he’s horrified, but then within that moment, the gangster mentality clicks inside.
What Jamie McShane’s Statement Says About Eryn’s Death In Task
After killing Eryn, Perry floats out her body on the river, marking yet another person who’s died because of Robbie. Episode 4 killed off Cliff, but now, the number of allies Robbie really has is starting to dwindle. The cast of Task is still full of characters with complex motivations, though, with Eryn’s death likely to have major repercussions.
Even though Perry holds a high-ranking position among the Dark Hearts, Eryn’s death will probably still cause untoward events to unfold. Even if Jayson doesn’t know all the details, he may still come to him with suspicion about what transpired. It also might force Perry into cutting all loose ends out of the organization, especially Robbie given what he knows.
Our Take On Eryn’s Shocking Death In Task Episode 5
Since reviews for Task have been almost universally positive about the entire show, the final two episodes will likely utilize Eryn’s death appropriately. How this will play out is unknown, but her ties to Robbie and the larger criminal operations he was leading means some very major developments are likely in store as a result of Perry’s actions.
Since Task episode 5 ended with Tom approaching Robbie before he goes to meet with the Dark Hearts, it’s possible the upcoming episodes will focus on the aftermath of his actions. But, since the gang is now in the sights of the FBI, Eryn’s death might be what they need to take the organization down, possibly even with Robbie’s help.
