Ballard Season 2 Renewal Breaks Titus Welliver’s Cancellation Streak

The fate of Ballard season 2 has been revealed, ending one of Bosch actor Titus Welliver’s recent disappointing TV trends. Even before he was cast as the lead in the Bosch franchise, Titus Welliver was known as a prolific crime actor. However, his popularity boomed when he starred as Harry Bosch in Prime Video’s adaptation of Michael Connelly’s Bosch books.

While he has remained a household name, his career hasn’t been quite as exciting since the original Bosch show ended in 2021. He has had a few hits, and the sequel series Bosch: Legacy and Ballard season 1 certainly satiated the appetites of fans.

That being said, Welliver has had an unfortunate trend with TV shows recently. Luckily, new news about Ballard season 2 will break the pattern.

No matter how good an actor is, they cannot avoid the inevitability of appearing in a canceled TV show, considering how often shows are cancelled instead of given a proper concluding season. Unfortunately, Titus Welliver’s past three seasons of TV shows have all been cancelled one after another, creating a disappointing streak.

After he appeared in season 4 of Titans, HBO canceled the show. Then, he appeared in season 3 of The Equalizer, only for it to get cancelled. On top of that, Amazon cancelled Bosch: Legacy, which starred Titus Welliver as Harry Bosch, after three seasons.

Luckily, Ballard season 2 was renewed, breaking the terrible streak. Titus Welliver plays a supporting role in season 1, helping Renee Ballard uncover the season’s conspiracy. It’s the first time in a while that one of Welliver’s shows has been renewed, instead of ending unceremoniously.

Will Titus Welliver Return In Ballard Season 2?

The confirmation of Ballard season 2 came with the news that Maggie Q would return as the title character. However, it didn’t make any definitive statements about other actors. That being said, it’s expected that Titus Welliver will return in a supporting capacity in Ballard season 2.

Although Ballard focuses primarily on Maggie Q’s Renee Ballard, most of the books she appears in feature both Bosch and Ballard as equally central main characters, with alternating POVs.

Without spoiling the first season, Harry Bosch played a critical role in the ending of Ballard season 1, so it wouldn’t make sense for him not to come back. He’s needed for at least one, if not two, ongoing storylines.

This seems especially likely considering the show is rumored to include flashbacks of Bosch with young Harry played by Jack Meade-Mullarky. It would be odd for them to include flashbacks of young Bosch but not current Bosch.

Titus Welliver’s Upcoming Crime Drama Has More Pressure To Continue Ballard’s Renewal Success

Considering Ballard season 2 is now definitely happening, Titus Welliver’s upcoming crime drama, The Westies, has even more pressure. If the mob show gets renewed for a second season, it will start a new trend of renewals for the actor. However, if it only gets one season, The Westies would negate the positive shift for Welliver created by Ballard’s renewal.
